Stop PETsMart in their tracks!

I am very interested in this post that (if im correct) that we are talking about stores in the US that they are different from the UK chains.

Most of us seem to be from North America, commenting on our local PetSmart. The petition is addressed to PetsMart Headquarters in Arizona. The person who started the thread has not returned to say why they started it. They are from Connecticut, USA. I'm sorry to hear that PetsMart in the UK is so poor. It sounds like it rivals Walmart's reputation here in the states. *sigh*

As for the better stores using oxygen but not chains, our local pet stores don't use oxygen, but the local PetsMart does. They also meticulously double bag.

i'm not even sure if we have a petsmart here in vancouver :dunno: we do have something called petcetera which sounds very similar. i was wasting time on the weekend and walked into one, not to buy fish but just to wander around. at first i was somewhat impressed with the fish and conditions, it all seemed pretty above board until....i came to the bettas. they had a display rack with shelves, on the bottom they were selling their own brand of betta bowl, something like 11cm square, in a heart shape (oh how cute..rolls eyes). the topper was the instructions on the back, "blah blah blah, rice patties they don't need hardly any water etc." so, you can imagine how small this damn bowl was right? well, on the back it said, "oh, change water 1 to 3 times a month". :/ even more flabergasting was the plastic divider included so you could fit 2 bettas in the damn thing. wow, all for only $6. the bettas for sale were a sad sight as well, i picked up one of the little cups and was astonished at the filthy water, poor little veil-tail looking at me with eyes that whimpered "kill me now, please" :/ i refuse to shop at chains like that that sell fish, i won't even buy products at them :(

It probably depends where you live. Some areas have a lot of 'real' fish stores while others are lacking.

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO STOP PETSMART?????????? :X
our petsmart is remarkable
the tanks are clean and healthy,
they are ALWAYS giving their fish/livestock fresh fruits and vegitables
and their pets are ALWAYS healthy, active and well maintained

now walmart and petcetera i can see you complaining about
they are one and the same
neither know a fish from their own shoe
they are both disease ridden and sickeningly overcrowded!
they DO NOT take care of their livestock, in fact

*whispering secretively in your ear* :shifty:
they lose 99% of thier hamsters over here to wet tail! a very treatable disease that is never looked after :-(

My petsmart is awesome. All the fish people are great... maybe not as knowledgable as some here... but still. I think I have had more deaths from my lfs than from petsmart.

My local Petsmart is sometimes hit and miss for fish.

For the most part, the staff that does the fish usually does not know jack squat. Fortunatly, the kinds of fish the petsmart sells I know more than enough.

Dry fish goods are good, and other pet supplies are just fine too. But as for the fish themselves.........................................

I would say they are at, about 80%, in fishkeeping. I do sometimes see dead mollies and other tetra's and such, smaller, easy to find fish. I will say something and it is taken care of. Each time I've seen dead fish, you can tell they have not been dead very long. But it still happens, dead fish that is.

As for thier 'meaner' fish, like the oscars, dempsey's and such, I dont like how they feed tehm only once a day. You can tell that the 'carnivore' fish are not maintained as they should be. But I can understand that PS is not in the bussiness of raising fish, only 'holding them' until the sale. But still, a tnak with 3 oscars needs more than a small cup of pellets. They dont feed live fish to them at my PS, and as you know, small oscars and such are quite the hungry little fish as they are growing up.

I think it would be a better idea to boycott the stores that sell dyed fish...which by the way I have never seen in a Petsmart.

There are several here that I have visited...some are better than others but by no means the worst I've seen.

no petsmarts around me but i buy all my fish from one spot. the only thing i will buy at a chain store is replacement parts like filter cartridges. sorry you had a bad experience with petsmart and i hope you have good luck wiht your petition.

We take very good care of our small animals!!! Twice a day we count them, change their water and food, and check for illness. When we have a sick animal, we isolate it in the treatment room where they are also very well taken care of. When someone brings back a sick or dead hamster, it's usually because they did not listen when we told them to wait a week before handling it. We do our best but animals are animals. Things happen. I love animals which is why I work there. I get soooooo upset when one dies. Sorry if I got a little defensive, I just like my job.

And as for fish...we have a 14 day guarantee(other animals too). As soon as we see something wrong w/ fish(fungus, bacteria, ich, etc), we don't sell from that tank til it is treated and the problem is gone. We pull out the dead fish twice a day. So we do our job and try our hardest but we can't stop Mother Nature.

Thanx to everyone who stood up for PETsMART!

I'm suprised how many people have signed this petition, what a bunch of tards. This reminds me of people that complain about Howard Stern for erroneous reasons.
