Hi all, need some clarification about these little dudes.

Went to my local fish shop, and they told me they were cold water fish, and were in with the goldfish.

However, i visited my not so local MA, and they had them in there, but they were in a tank with Denisonii's and boesemani's. Now i know for sure they arent coldwater fish! i dipped my finger in the top of the tank and sure enough, it wasnt cold!

so im wondering if i can keep them?

i know they need fairly fast flowing water, which i can pretty much provide as i need the flow in my planted tank. and the other thing was high oxygen levels. this ight be more of a problem, but i do have a large airstone comming on at intervals during the day beight chopped up by a koralia 2.

I believe it's the Garra genus you're talking about isn't it?
Well, technically the can go down as low as 20C, so can be kept at room temp with goldfish, however they do prefer higher temps, roughly 25.

my tank is about 24C perhaps creeping up to 25 in the summer.

im just wondering if my tank is suitable for them.
because its planted, oxygen content isnt that high, and i dont have large rounded stones for them to suck on. i only have a large lump of redmoor.
they are not cheap, so im not sure i want to risk it.
i would rather see the fish in a more natural habitat i think.

yeah thats another name for them i believe.
along with borneo sucker.

that link says they are coldwater, but denisonii's are definately not. i think some clarification is needed!

i think because they are mainly tank bred now they can be kept in temps up to 26c i know my lfs gets them from singapore and they keep them at 27c

denisinii barbs do like a lot cooler temps actually as low as 15c

no, denisonii's dont like to be kept as low as 15. thats as low as they can tollerate, not how low they like to be kept. i wouldnt keep them any cooler than 20. your asking for trouble if you go lower. fish will be lethargic, loss of appetite etc.
