Stocking My 270gal

I thinks P-bass will eventually get too big so they're a no no.

Hmm.Uara are £30 each for a 5" fish, and apparently they sometimes develop a taste for rays slime coat...Although I like them, I don't think they're for this tank.

Maybe some Pearsei? If the guy I know still breeds them.

Any other suggestions for inexpensive fish to be the 1st guys in there?

Looking at other fish, would a Polypterus congicus mix with the other stock (Dats, Motoros, RTG arrowana, Fire eel and pearsei?)

I would doubt pbass would get too big if its 3 feet wide TBH, but having not kept them myself, I dont know their growth rates...Can anyone help as to what should be expected if bought at say 2"???

Check out tropical imports, they usually have things in which would be perfect for your tank, and theyre a good price too.

Ahh one profile I looked up said 36" but thats their wild size looking at others.I guess P.bass grow pretty fast since all cichlids seem too.

Just looking at tropical imports, prices seem good, as you said :good:

I'm thinking some herichthys bocourtiinstead of pearsei  They look sweet...Anyone got an idea of the price?-Edit-Never mind, there's not even a record of them on aquariast-classifieds.
Shame I can't put my beastly pearsei in, she's around 11" and like 2.5" thick, but carries lymphocytis

If you were to get one of them, the smaller species like C. ocellaris (which is the species tropical imports have) should stay arround 2ft, reaching about a foot long in a year, then slowing down after that, it would take a long time for them to get too big for your tank if they ever would do....but it depends what you want to keep...The really big species, which WILL attain 3 feet are orinocensis and temensis. At the end of the day its what your happy with and what you want to keep but I know if it were my tank, I would definately grow some cichla out for it.

bocourti are easily obatinable I can get them at 2-2.5" for £4.89 each and 4" fro 11.97.
Nice, where from though?
...There's so many options, I'll have to see when it's all set-up.

Quick question, why go for two sump tanks?

My biggest regret with my two tank sump is that I didn't get one long tank to go in.

Also, consider throwing an algae turf scrubber on the sump system (potentially in place of a wet/dry trickle tower) as this will reduce nitrates nicely. There's a great thread on ATS down in marine right now.

Since the tanks only 26" long I figured with the pump, heaters, trickle tower and bubble trap it would all be a bit much. Also being only 26.5 gallons it's barely 10% of the tank volume.
Just thinking about the trickle tower what would be the ideal width, since I can go as big as I can go to about 20" (plans are in the car atm).
If I were to get one long tank I wouldn't be able to afford it assembled, so would have to make it myself, it's all more hassle.
And as I've already got the the tank & tools I might as well make use of them.
I have no idea what an ATS is but will go and look it up

Sounds like a good idea, If I extended the pipework I should think I could fit one in quite easily in the 2nd tank.

Right so there's my stocking ideas...I put d.pulchur on just so I don't get muddled up...But I'm torn between the other two.Although I heard that the Indonesian tiger is aggressive to it's own kind?

Looking at cichla ocellaris it didn't seem that they looked all that nice, especially compared to the pinima...So pinima it is.
Any compatibility issues apart from the size?

Never stocking a tank much more than a 1/3 of this size how many of each fish do you think I should have? (if being able to have every fish that is)working around 3 Motoro's, RTG aro, Magalodurus, and fire eel, and p.bass.

Right here is a few possible problems I see:

1. You will have to get the indo tigers you wont find pulcha anywhere and if you do it will be £300+. Indo tigers are fine in groups its NGT campbelli that are aggressive to there own IT are fine. Problem will be they are very slow growers so you will need to find 5-6"+ ones otherwise they wont grow quick enough in comparison and will end up as feeders. As for Pinima you wont find any for sale for good money the ones that are floating around are the ones Danny bought in under a diff species and sold them for a very good price now people know what they are they want £150 a piece but you wont see shops bringing in pinima oh and the fact they hit 3ft rules them out of your tank mate.

2. I hope you have very deep pockets as these fish you have picked will cost you a fortune here is a basic price guide:

RTG Arowana £350-£450 unless you buy Richards very cheaply priced on today.
Motoro Rays £200-£250 for a pair
Indo tigers £40-£100 for 5-6" ones they vary in price but most places will have them a a higher price.
Eartheaters the only normal priced fish on your list.
Fire eel again slow grower so really could do with being 12"+ so about £40

Thanks for the info mate...I liked those pinima lol, oh well.
I think I'll start off with a group of the geophagus (6 maybe?), fire eel, and l200.The expensive stuff will have to come at crimbo and my b-day.
