I've got an 80g that I would like to do something else with. Dimensions are 4' x 20". I want something odd, interesting, or rare, hence the posting in this forum. I was thinking something like a Serrasalmus elongatus or a larger predatory catfish. Filtration will likely be an ac 70 and 50, depending on what I pick up today. I could always add onto the filtration if necessary.

Other than a frogfish, I'm probably not looking at another marine tank. Unfortunately, I almost never see them out here (seen 3 in 5 years) so that probably won't happen. Brackish would be fine though.

What about a group of ropefish? 4 or 5 would do it. But no less than 4, they are very social fish. There are a lot of different things said about the length, but they grow somewhere from 15 in to 2'. They are very peacefull, but will eat any fish that will fit in it's mouth.( a.k.a. danios, smaller tetras and cories.) They can't stand bad water.

Oh, okay. So what about another type of bichir? howabout the sddled. Mabye the ornate.Or you could keep whiptail plecos(not farrawellas). They're carnivorous and grow to about a foot.

I was thinking about doing a bichir tank but I already have a senegal in my tank.

I thought whiptails were vegetarian?? If I went the catfish route I'd probably be looking for something more like a shovelnose (large ish pred). I think I'd probably want one large fish rather than a few smaller ones.

Yes, they are vicous little criters. And I was wrong, some can grow 2 feet.
About the shovelnoses, you could keep a group of four or so.I know this probobly know that this isn't what you want but howabout a colony of 10 banjo cats.

I thought 1 shovelnose would fill up the tank or even be too big, no? Are we thinking of the same fish (S. lima)?

A large group of banjo's or something else like that sounds interesting, I just don't think that's really what I'm looking for atm.

That's what I'm here for. To spread the gospel of the exodon. :good:
And its not just there. Here and around the world many fish keepers have never heard of exodons. They are not common at all. Which makes it all the more rewarding if you can get your hands on some.

This would be great. I don't know why I didn't think of it. I was actually thinking of doing this a couple years ago but I went for a lone sanchezi instead. About how many would I be able to fit? If I went this way I could up the filtration.

EDIT: A shoal of wimples or denticulata sounds cool too. I realize this probably isn't the place for piranha questions but does anybody have any idea on how many I could fit in an 80g? A quick google search didn't really find anything.

i really really really want some, but i have not seen them, and i don't want to buy them online if i do find them. i have had bad experiences with shipped fish. Lorax said she would help me find some if she saw them around.

ExodoNs > piranha. Lol. All the P's I had were boring. I ended up giving them away.

The number you can stock, depends on the amount and quality of the filtration, as well as the work you are willing to put in.

As for filtration I'd probably go with an ac70, a 50, plus whatever turns up in the mail in a couple of weeks (my uncle is sending me a couple of little marineland hob's he had no use for). Basically whatever I can get my hands on. I'd have no problem with doing up to 2 water changes a week.

And yes, piranhas = boring to most people, but I'm okay with boring fish lol. I've got maybe 2 not boring fish, a severum and a jawfish, everything else is either nocturnal, does nothing, or both.

That's about standard filtration for an 80g, so I wouldn't suggest more than 30 (40max)
