Stocking A 8ft X18inchx18inch Tank This Any Good

welll i may be getting a 8ft x18inchx18inch tank would this be ok stocking

im unsure on filter i may go with a pond filter but dunno may go with a big external

1 x oscar
1x common plec
6 x silver dollars
1 x senegal birchir

is there any more room for fish sold for small tanks often eg oscars people get told they can be in a 10 gal

so they easier to come by

if you use the fish tank calculator on think fish it should help you.
They are usually a bit over what ya can have so for you tank they,
say that your guide stocking level is around 840 cm so i woul take a
quarter off this figure unless you are going to have very good filtration
with 2 external filters of a big size. with the oscar you would be best off
keeping bigger fish and not small ones as they will be eaten.
Oscar dont really make good fish for a comunity tank al the same.
you will need to choose any fsh with care as they can be very aggressive.

If your looking for fish that you will be able to get at a decent size at a low price there are loads. How about synodontis eupterus the featherfin syno all my LFS have at least 6 adults that are going for free.

Yes to the Sev...don't know about the Reed Fish.

Whats the gallons on that tank (uk and us)? I'd say yes if you over filter for the Clowns.

You not interested in any other big Cichlids? I love them

If that was my tank i'd have a mix of big guys......Jag,Oscar,Green Terror,JD and a Texas then a big plec and Silver Dollars and 5 clown loaches as dithers...then run 2 external filters and water change lots the hose pipe way

Round here we dont have a problem with chlorine..jsut chlorimide so we bend the hose pipe on the refill and let it gas off hitting the tank wall....ideal for big tank water changes...very quick.

Do it the proper way for smaller tanks with smaller fish.

But hey the purists will say its a no no...but i dont lose fish in big tanks ever

With your stocking...its trial and error matey...don't always take what people tell you as the rule book, its all about the individual fish over what works and dont work. (as Minxy will tell you with her cichlid mixing)

yeah i like big ciclids there my sortof favourite fish them and marine that is

mainly bcus we had a 6x2x2 tank with massive chiclids in and real big plecs like 17 inches long

its 118 uk 141 us


so im gonna leave the clowns out

Yo u could try it but keep a proper close eye on them, because they are as nuts as say a Red Devil.

Try a Green Terror or somthing...they are better looking and they have a better chance of getting on with your stock.

Also how about the Clowns instead of the Dollars? or are you dead set on the SD's?

You can't gas off Chloromine?? I think you may have the two mixed up

i would try and find some tinfoils to rehome chances are someone has some large ones they need to loose.
