What can I feed my 4-spined stickleback? I can always take him back the the stream if I have to.

Try some live foods like Bloodworm, Daphnia etc and you should be able to slowly move them on to frozen and commercail foods.

mine ate flake the same day i caught them, well thats not exactly true, i caught them at the start of the year, and popped them in the pond, i moved some into a tank in the house around mid summer, they might have become used to seeing me, and being fed by me by then, they are not scared of people at all, they would always come to the top or chase the food around the tank just like any tropical fish, a word of warning though, dont keep anything smaller than them in the same tank, like tadpoles they ate all mine
