Hi everyone,

I just seen and liked the sterbai corys. I would like to know as much details about this fish as possible incase i decide to get those. How many should i get, what water parameters do they prefer, and are they fairly easy to keep in a community aquarium?

Thanks for the info :good: ,

Mike

Essentially all cories can be kept sufficiently in a community tank that has 0 salt in the water as it is harmful to cories... Cories should be kept in as large a group as possible probably minimum is 3-4 as cories by themselves are unhappy (in general attitude they appear disheartened). Hope that helps

i keep my breeding trio in a 20l moby dick tank in a temp of between 24-26. however, that temp drops when i do the cold water change to induce spawing. The young that i have raised (about 10) are in my discus tank at a temp of 30 degree. There have also been reports that sterbai have spawning in temps of this high in discus tanks with no assitance!

I cant wait for my albino sterbai to get to spawning size hehehe !

will pop you a pic up when i get home from work mate no problem. might not be one of mine as i only got them yesterday and they are all hiding, but i know of sites on the net that have good pics of adults that i can get ya :)

I think that the statement about cories needing 0 salt is not true. I was treating my tank with salt because I it had columnaris, and i had 6 Corydoras Trilineatus in there, not one of them died or got sick, and the salt was in there for 1 month

Corys should not be subject to salt for great lengths of time. they do not have scales like other fish but are armour plated. suject to salt for great lengths of time can have adverse affects on their health and whilst yours may not be ill at the moment, it doesnt mean their lifespan has been shortened any. They could develope liver problems later on in life which could be a result of being subject to salt for a long time.

It's not like I dosed it with the high amount of salt....I dosed with the lowest amount advised on the box, and kept it in, I didn't add any more after water changes, so the salt slowly went away...

Salt should best be avoided unless necessary in treating a disease and once the disease has done it's dash if you will a water change should be performed to dilute the salt further
