Starting to get VERY irritated at this site now...

I have always used adblockers. I know the ads give a certain amount of income towards the running costs but I can't be doing with the irritation.

AdBlock Ultimate and IObit protection in use on my pooter (with Firefox that I have used ever since it was launched). I refuse to use my phone's web ability due to tiny screen being an even more irritating thing than unwanted ads.

I use a laptop and I experimented by using a different browser from usual and disabling the ad blocker before opening TFF. When I first opened TFF there were ads with an x in the corner and clicking the x left a message about google ads. These are put there by google rather than a website itself. Then I logged in and the ads vanished.

Those of you using phones - do you clear cache on a regular basis? I clear data on my laptop every evening when I turn it off for the night but I know many people with phones never turn them off or clear cache.

And solutions have been offered by many: change web browsers because using google chrome these days is the same as using internet explorerat the height of microsoft's arrogant dominance in the PC field. chrome, and Google as a whole is a monopoly, hellbent on exploiting the product, i.e. the user information and privacy; for their own gain. If installing another browser is too much of an inconvenience, it is a sign of the times.

I totally agree and totally don't agree. I allow nothing Google on any of my many systems as Google is a black hole that sucks in everything that you do and then sells the info to advertisers to target ads to you based on your browsing history. I don't even use Google as my default search engine. For searches I use Bing which is Microsoft. I won't say that Bing is totally innocent as to result placements but it is a LOT more relevant in general results than Google.

It was a very sad day when search engines stopped being a very useful way to find info and became an advertisment platform.

Why??? Having ads on your site helps financing the site. The site helps people and ads are a fair return. I don't see the ads and have given advice for others to potentially kill the ads.

I suggest that you enable the ads again. If others can't follow simple instructions to block these ads it is on them, not the site staff.

If the ads add revenue to this site the ads are worth it as the info provided through this site is worth having ads... Oh wait... I don't have ads... Mayhaps the ad complainers might actually think about following my advice and stop bitching.

First of all, family friendly forum. No cursing. Second of all Idk if you have gotten these ads but their not lile the normal ones. In ok with ads but these are irritating like heck. Whilw you type they pop up and then you accidentally click into some random site. My device glitches enough as it is so it takes forever to X out of the site and then load back in and then go back to what I was typing. I suggest you dont assume that we are complaining about nothing

The issue is on your side of the equation @Rocky998 I use the forum both on a windows machine and on my android phone. 90% of the time on my phone, and i haven't seen a single ad, be it pop-ups, pop-unders or any other newfangled way that either google or shady advertisers come up with to monetize our eyeballs.

On an unrelated note, it's refreshing to see a young guy such as yourself calling out a "curse" word as common as bitching. Considering what I hear young kids around here spout freely, even around their parents (and I mean young, as in 10 or so) it gives me a sliver of hope.

Back to the subject of the ads, I strongly advise you run some cleanup app on your phone, it's got issues for sure.

Try ccleaner, it has a free version, and be sure to try another browser, for all that is holy.

I use an iphone and a chromebook. Using another OS on a chromebook is not possible. But I love using the chromebook for web browsing. The chromebook starts up in seconds, runs very fast, has automatic updates that update without taking any perceivable time, and is pretty much virus proof. Chromebooks are inexpensive and very light.
You can’t load software programs but it loads apps that can allow you to do things like word processing online. If you mainly do web surfing , I highly recommend chromebooks.

I hate cursing. I love watching movies but lately there is not a clean thing on anymore as well as music. I will admit I do watch movies and shows that have cursing but if there was a way to clear it up for free I'd be right on it. But I always listen to the clean version of songs.

An obnoxious video ad is definitely a sign that your device has way too many tracking cookies and other stuff in it that needs to be cleaned out

Just use cleanup tools like CCleaner, it won't take anything vital to your regular usage, and if passwords are an issue (who can remember more than a handful and these days every little crap app and site need a password anyway) I'd personally recommend bitwarden. It allows you to save all your passwords across devices, so even if wiping out data like cookies "signs you out" your passwords will be safe.
