Starting to get VERY irritated at this site now...

How old is the Toshiba? When is the last time you defragged? What AV program do you use?

Ty for the advice! I will give Brave a try then :)

1. I don't know, it's one my bro had stopped using after upgrading, and gave to me when my old Lenovo died. Several years. I'm fond of Toshiba because the first lappy I had was a Toshiba, and it was robust and lasted years without problems. This one has been okay, I've used it maybe 2-3 years now, but the battery no longer holds a charge so always needs to be plugged in, and since it's old, not worth adding memory or anything.

2. Ummm.... never? I just run CCleaner when I think of it, or when it starts to run slower because of cookies/trackers etc
3. Avast, the free version

Oh, and it's beginning to overheat a lot... I know it's only a matter of time before it dies properly! I should probably seek advice about a good but inexpensive laptop before that happens...

Toshiba made workhorses, I had a couple and loved them, but they shed the laptop business. Currently on a Lenovo yoga for personal use and some other model for work. Can't say I have complaints.

Never defragged??

Get the free version, of course...keep in mind, especially since it hasn't been done (ever?), it will take a LONG time to complete...start the process when you won't be needing the PC, for hours...pause any screensavers, they'll just slow the process to a crawl

Have you run the AV program lately?

My last one was a Lenovo. It was okay, but felt so flimsy and breakable compared to the Toshibas, you know? But was inexpensive...

LOL...I'm no PC expert, by any means...but I know a bit of basic maintenance :)

Are you running Windows?....if so, curious which version.

I know how to avoid scam pop ups and things, virus traps and toolbars, but that's about it.
Yes to Windows, but which version? Um, I dunno... lol. How do I tell?

  • Select the Start button > Settings > System > About .
