Starting A New Tank

just found that discussion. sounds like they were talking about a cheaper made tank then the one i was looking at. in the store it looked good quality just the look of the tank just doesnt compare with the roma tanks. i think i might just bite the bullet and spend the extra money on the roma 200. that way i no its going to be good quality for sure. and i aint planning on upgrading again aftet this. 200L is plently big enough for a nice comunity tank im after. though im sure a few years down the line i will be wanting a bigger one lol. but may aswell spend that extra bit if i plan on it being my tank for years to come. just got to stop thinking about that £200 tank its just too cheap to completly ignore lol.

Its the same with everything though, theres always cheaper versions of everything. Like you say if this is something you really like and want, then get it, you won't regret the Roma, but you *may* regret the Aquael. I know the APS is very cheaply made, and that Aquael is a better brand, but I thought it might just swing you ;)

The £326 on seapets includes an internal filter and all the accessories you need (I would shop around though, internal filters aren't the way to go...). The prices you have seen are likely bundles with everything in.. fluval equipment generally is.

Personally I went for Aquael Aludekor 120 as it is IMHO the best looking tank in the market. Same price as the Roma, with twin reflected 39W T5 lights, so ample for a good planted set up

the seapets deal includes a internal filter yes but i looked on ebay and i could sell the fluval u4 for maybe £30? then i planned investing that money and a bit more and buying a fluval external filter 206. and the deal includes gravel which is also a plus. could be worth searching around to see if i can buy the tank and the stand only and just buy an external filter. im already thinking about dirting the tank and stuff. i need to slow down lol aint even brought a new one yet. i take it the lighting is pretty good on the roma? i dont want to use co2. anyone else got the roma tank?

if i read that right its 240L? think that might be getting too big. im having it up stares dont want it going through the floor or anything lol. does have the same kind of look to the roma tank though looks nice. the lighting sounds good aswell. what about filter?

The filter I'm using on my Roma is a fluval 205 external, which I've never had any problems with. Not to see opinionated as all tanks have their pros, but I think fluval is a respectable brand as far as tropicals go and regardless of which filtration you choose positive results should be seen; hence fluval's 3 year product guarantee. As for lighting yes, the Roma does not disappoint, the bulbs you would get in the seapets deal do the following:

Power glo:
Promotes coral, invertebrate and plant growth. Ideal for marine tanks and African cichlid aquariums. Intensifies colour and stimulates growth of macro marine algae and freshwater plants.
Rapid start lamp.

Aqua glo:
Intensifies fish colours and promotes plant growth. Provides proper spectral output and effective enhancement of blue, red and orange pigments.
Rapid start lamp.

If you want any specific information on the tank just ask, i'll pull out my setup guide and everything that came with the tank tomorrow when I'm not half asleep. -_-

Its a shame as the fluvals used to come with externals as standard, the U filters are really good apparently but they're internal..

You've got your thinking hat on, just sell the U4, they're are in pretty good demand, you could pick up a second hand external for about 40

yeah when i first wanted the roma tank they came with an internal filter so was quite suprised when i saw they now come with internal. wonder why they done that? i was thinking maybe a second hand filter but if im going to have the tank long term i may aswell just buy the filter new so dont have to worry about anything. ive read lots or reviews about externals and just couldnt see me having an internal now. one of my mates has just got an external aswell and he said the difference it just incredible.

Jamiedodger yeah would be good to hear about what bulbs you think would be best for a tropical community set up to help plant growth. also is there any things you dont like about the roma? anything u would change? that would be great to hear. might set up a journal when i get it and get you guys help design it as im sure you guys could make the tank look better then i can :)

People rave about the tetratecs as an external. I cant say anything i Use my juwel internal, but it does depend on your stocking, im always understocked.

Would be nice to see a journal :good:

been looking at a journal on the forum ona roma 200. you guys have helped me make the right choice i think. the tank looks really smart. just need to hurry up and get my 60L on ebay and then my 95L and wait for pay day :)

They do a range of sizes, including a 200 litre. I got mine from water zoo at a good deal, tank,1000lph int. filter, lighting & heater for £170, but this didnt include the stand as I didn't need one.

Congrats on reaching a decision. You won't be disappointed. A bit poorer perhaps but not disappointed!

think some overtime at work is needed lol. last night i read a comment on the roma 200 is known for leaking? which i dont like the sound of. hope that was just a 1 off for somebody.

I researched it and didn't find many bad reviews - and remember people on the internet are far quicker to condemn than they are to recommend! However if you do buy it new, it will come with a guarantee (i believe it is for three years but i don't have it here to check) which is one of the reasons we went with that option. Therefore if it does start to leak, and i have not heard a story of it having done so but I am sure there are examples, you should be able to get a replacement.

it was only one bad review i saw. im sure there normally fine. yeah i like the sound of the guarantee. should start thinking about what am i going to stock it with :)need some help with ferts aswell i have some but i guess ill ask more about that when its time to add plants.
