Yesterday I bought a spotted cory and I was wondering what they eat. I got it to use as as an algae eater (and because it's cute  ) but it doesn't seem to be eating the algae. Do you think that it just hasn't been in long enough? I have a brazil sword and camoba (think thats how you spell it) in my tank will it eat those? If it won't eat the algae will you please reccomend a breed of algae eater. I have snails but they aren't doing anything. The algae is brown and mainly on the glass, especially the back wall and the left side. There's also a little bit on the rocks.

I just wanted to say that depending on the size of your tank, you should get the cory friend, they are schooling fish and need to be kept in adleast groups of 3. In feeding a cory, mine eat algae discs, shrimp pelletts, bloodworms. If it is a smaller tank, than you could get a chinese algea eater to help you clean up the tank, or even a pleco, but if you get a pleco, the common ones can outgrow most tanks very quickly. I am sure there will be others with more suggestions.

Hi Sea_Monster87

The best way to get rid of algae on the glass is just to scrape it off or scrub it off with a nylon scrubber that you use only for that purpose.

A cory will not do the job of cleaning or preventing algae. They are, however, good community tank citizens and an amusing addition to your aquarium.

Corys are schooling fish and are shy and easily frightened when they are the only one in a tank. Please buy one or more of them (more is better) as companions to the one you already have. Only then will you be able to fully enjoy their playful nature. :p

I'm planning on buying a panda cory to keep it company. Even though it's made friends with my frog it does seem lonely. It is very playful allready though so I'm looking forward to seeing what'll happen when I have more of them! Thanks for the help with the algae problem. 8)

cories are not algal eaters they are omnivourous
generally they like lots of meaty thinks from bloodworm, brine shrimp, daphnia if they ever make it to the bottom of the tank
a general not just algal sinking wafer/pellet

white worm/microworm and chopped eartworms all sink and they love em
