i have just ordered 2 spotted congo frogs, and i am wondering what ellse to feed them other than frozen bloodworms.
any ideas?

What kind of set up do you have for them? I am not experience with congos but know folks who are and they require a decent sized set up - - google "frog forum" - - there should be decent care sheets available there and I know there is a highly knowledge community of dedicated frog owners there who can answer your questions - - considering you have already ordered them it is important to get the required information immediately to acclimate them properly.

Would love to see a post on here of them when they arrive!! Lots of pictures!!!!

the tank has sand substrate, heavily planted.

i will put pics up when i get them for you :good:

whoa it just occurred to me - - are you talking about african dwarf frogs?! Started thinking and I don't think there is a species called "Spotted Congo" - some places sell dwarfs under this name to multiply the price

think so as african dwarf frog comes up as common names for them.
They cost £2.99 each sounds a good price to me

Hymenochirus is the species - -Spotted Congo is just a fake name made up by sellers - - it is actually not considered a real term for them

I don't know the exact conversion, I use american dollars but I think you may be one of the lucky ones.

for ADF - -
for 2 - 5 gallon tank
for 4-5 - 10 gallon tank

heated, filtered with a low current output. Tank should be cycled prior to adding the frogs - they are exceptionally sensitive to ammonia and many new frogs die due to skin issues resulting from a newly set up tank.

Bloodworms (frozen - never freeze dried), and HBH frog and tadpole bites may great food for them. You can also treat with frozen brineshrimp.

Species only tanks work best.

I think my set up is fine.
I brought them to go in a community tank with peaceful fish.
I'm not sure where i can get HBH frog and tadpole bites? but i do have frozen bloodworms

if you are putting them in a community tank then you will have to be dedicated about hand feeding them with either your fingers or a turkey baster.

Most ADF owners will agree that they survive best in a species only tank -

HBH frog and tadpole bites are most often available in the USA, but ZooMed frog bites are available in the UK.

With a larger community tank, you should be warned that they should not be kept in water deeper than 14" - - they have to surface to breathe and a longer distance can over tire them and stress them, eventually to the point of death. They will not seek out tall ornaments or driftwood to help them breathe - they will swim up from where ever they happen to be in order to surface.

I only advise out of concern for the frogs - they are not an easy addition nor a decision to be taken lightly.

i kew i would need to hand feed them, which iis fine.
i will look inot them frog bites.
im pretty sure the tank is less tha 14" deep, but shall double check.

I use Reptomin for my ADF and they love it. Even the new ones I got today have been eating it. Just a tip though, soak it first then squeeze the air out of it to make it sink! Enjoy your froggies!

i will look into this also, thanks :good:

I use the Zoo Med frog food - I got mine off ebay as I couldn't find any in the shops.

That's the beauty of Reptomin, it's sold at almost all lfs and Pets@Home do it too.
