hi all

did not notice much happening thru the nite or this morning, so popped in one of the females again a short while ago, and within minutes if not seconds they were at it.
could not belive it , it is such a beautiful thing to witness.

so hopefully eggs are fertilised and i can in the near future post some piccy's of the babes.

Those could very well have been fry! That's how they behave. They fall out and usually struggle to get back up into the nest themselves, but sometimes poppa has to help
Either way, you know they've been at it now, so congrats!! :D

hi

left him alone for less than 30 mins, he has eaten more than half. still have some swimming about though.
was gonna take him out b4 i went to bed, guess i left it a little late.

he didnt eat the eggs but he ate the fry?...... i never been in that situation before... :dunno: ... most of the time ... if the male want them, he will just slaughter the nest before they hatch... :(

If there are eggs, they will hatch in 24 -36 hrs. As they start hatching, the eggs will start falling from the nest, and you will see the male retrieving them and putting them back in the nest. I wouldn't spook the male too much, as he might get nervous and eat the eggs, or babies as they hatch.

I've heard of some instances where, even before fry are free-swimming, the male will cull fry of his own volition- supposedly the weaker/sickly ones, though there's some speculation that he might actually target the ones most likely to pose a threat to his own supremacy!

And yeah, once the fry become free-swimming, Papa will have himself a little buffet ;)

sorry have not updated but home life a bit hectic.
fry seem to be doing ok.
still unsure as to how many there are.
i still cant get over how small they are.

They're unbelievably tiny. It's hard to believe how much they change the first month of their lives  Congrats again.

fry still going.

also great find from lfs's.
lovely blue double tail, and a veiltail crossed with either a half moon or delta, will have to get pics done a.s.a.p if the buggers will stay still long enuff, and also if i can get a clear one.lol

ok, tried counting fry and from what i see there is bout 24.
Also can anyone tell how i join the british betta society?
and can anyone also help me in finding some good places to import bettas from.

your help as always greatly recieved

Aggy
