Spawn Diary-taurean + Keona

well I've got two spawn tanks set up now. The other guy hasn't taken much interest in his woman yet. So we'll see how it goes. I probably will do another one though:) Then I'll be able to compare the babies, but first I hope these guys hatch for me, I'm so happy that I have them.

Daddy, is under there doing something with the eggies, so hopefully he wont eat them up. I think he's being good though. I'm excited after all :)

Whos this synirr guy? Is he a well known breeder?

I'm a gal, btw ;)

I'm sooo excited for you redbetta!! I hope the little guy takes after his father and does a good job taking care of the eggs (and hopefully fry!) I'm glad at least some eggs survived the canvas falling, I'm sure the stress of that is probably what caused him to eat some.

I know I feel so crappy but you know, I saved some eggs that were on the canvas, and all together I don't think there were that many to begin with. I saw them spawn most of the time(sat there and watched them hehe) and I never saw a lot of eggs fall off her. So I don't think she really produced a lot either. If I get 20 or 30 out of this I'll be sooooo happy :):)
I've got another pair set up, the gorgeous blue guy, which I thought was never going to make any nests since I got him and he started to, so I'll see what he does over the next few days. He's not showing off to the girl too much. I'm more concentrating on the eggs I got in with Taurean.

She's young and small, that's probably why there weren't that many eggs. Her little body probably can't hold very many mature eggs at a time yet :p

They haven't hatched yet. I shall see that on sunday.
Synirr I was thinking that too but I don't mind a small spawn to start with, and then I can just do another, I'll have variety :D

If they do come over 20 fry hatching you can send 1 or 2 to me...For housing purposes...Let me know...

LOL you're funny. If I get my 20 I think I'll be lucky. I'm sure I'll be giving some away but after what happened with Synirr's, I don't know if I want to ship. It took 9 days for them to get here, I thought they weren't going to make it, and they all did, I think it was a miracle. We'll see though for sure.

Yay, I just got back to my dorm and it looks like we have fry!! :hyper: :hyper: I'm so excited except there really aren't very many... I haven't tried to count, but maybe 15? Not many at all.
The thing is though, I noticed that they fall to the bottom and he's not picking them up, maybe that's not them, but there are brown spots on the bottom of the tank. I saw a few go down and he didn't pick them up, he did pick the ones up that he saw squirming around on the surface. Hmm hopefully everything is ok. And OMG his nest is MASSSSSSSSSIVVVE, nothing I've ever seen before. I'll get pics tomorrow when I get batteries. I finally stole the camera bwahaha.

lol he's probably thinking "dang kids, get out of my nest, you're messing it up." :grr:

 Ahh, fathers are such funny things to watch. I dream of someday finding the perfect papa, but until then I feel better when I hear other people have funny ones too :*)

He's being a super good boy, except his nest fell apart but it's mottttttttttther huge. I'll have to show you guys pics soon, I just wish there were more fry:(
But he's doing his job, he picked them off the bottom too, I think the things I'm seeing are probably bad eggs or something.

Well, this morning it looks like the beebees aren't staying in the nest and he's not looking for them on the bottom, I feel many of them wont survive so I'll only be left with a few.
The nest is good but they aren't reaching it when he blows them back up there, they just fall down again. Oh well, we'll see how it goes. Last night I counted maybe 10 :/

On the bright side, if he's not looking for them down there, that means he's not eating them! Don't count them out too quickly; they've had a couple days' good care from daddy, and mine survived with next to none, so you may still have a decent-sized spawn in the end. :)
