It's that time again. I put the lovely lady in the glass jar this morning and Azazel had created this within a matter of hours:

Our lady looked VERY ready, so I went ahead and released her... unfortunately I had to put her back a few minutes ago because she managed to lodge herself behind the filter and I wanted to let her recover a bit, the goofball . She has a small scratch on her back and was a bit stressed, but she seems fine now so I'll probably release her again before I go to bed tonight. All items with suction cups are now free-floating in the tank to avoid future mishaps

Anyway, pics!! :D

Siren, the cute little goof. You can actually tell she's copper in this pic!

About that... forgot to mention, I'm planning to remove some eggs to keep the spawn small, preferably under 20. The fry are going to be "mutts" and it's really the F2 and F3 that will be interesting. All I need are enough as I can choose a nice pair. :)

Nice pair!

I'm trying to find a DT girl for my copper black CTPK. Sounds like you're aiming for DTCTPK too. :D

...Azazel, something tells me you don't understand how this styrofoam cup thing is supposed to work.

Veerrrryy interesting spawn, should prove even more interesting down the line in the breedings I'm excited to see what becomes of it. :)

out of curiousity, synirr, what are you trying to accomplish through your F2s and on? I know those ones before you are breeding them down in size, but is that it, or do you have other plans?

I'm probably still gonna work with the Mini line a bit, I have the tiniest DT from the current spawn I'm interested in breeding, but with this pair I'm finally starting work on CT plakats. I want to work on producing some nice quality CT plakats with good crowning and wide caudal spread. I'm also interested in what a DT CT plakat would look like, hence the DT female (plus her genes will help with the caudal spread and she comes from nice thick-bodied lines, which I like). In the F2 one out of every 16 fish should be DT CT plakat, so providing I can manage to produce a spawn of any sustantial size we'll be seeing what that looks like in a couple of generations :good:

Since I'm keeping this spawn small, I'm hoping to be able to set another one up in a couple of days and raise the fry together. The other will be between a long-finned CT (Astaroth) and a plakat (gold female from the Blondie x Gabriel spawn) or two plakats (Leviathan and Blondie). Heck, I might even do both . The Astaroth spawn would be very small as well, 10 fish or less, so raising his and Azazel's spawns at the same time wouldn't be a problem, but I'd want to save a few more from Leviathan as they'd be 100% plakat... the problem is I might be moving soon and I don't want to get stuck moving a tub full of a juvies! We'll see.

Interesting. I love that you're breeding them small. I love small bettas, but it can be hard to feed them somtimes. Because of you marketers will have to startmaking teeny pellets -lol-

i'd love to breed but i don't think i could cull so early. I'd be afraid that i was getting rid of the best of the lot and not realizing it. But three spawns at once, I wouldn't want to move all those babies either.

Wow.. others who like small fish!

I like tiny fish, they're so cute! Though I guess if they are too small, yeah, it'd be a problem to feed them. Hell.. when I feed my guy, even an eighth of a pea is too large for him to take at once. Their mouths are so tiny! If I give him an eighth of a pea it's so cute to watch. He grabs it in his jaw, then whips it around in a very dog-like fashion :hey: trying to whip it into smaller pieces.

I don't understand the fascination with giants and stuff. I really find them ugly. :S And they are against a lot of the appeal of a betta fish. I like how small they are. Smaller would be really cute :)
