all these are well worth the price they were all under £5 what more could you want

Yer show bettas are great but not all of us have access to them (uk) and/or can afford the prices, we don't care if there imperfect, all my bettas are prefect to me

I never saw the appeal of buying a real "show" betta. They're lovely, sure, but also expensive. Also, to me, that expenditure is a bit of a waste, considering I don't plan to breed them. All of my bettas (2 boys & a girl) came from the LFS, and I think they're great. And to think, I thought I was being fancy-pants because I bought a CT instead of a VT

All of mine are pet shop mutts and gorgeous. I do have one who isn't and yes he is absolutely lively, my pet store male is just as good and he even seems to have manners lol

expensive? they're only $5 each believe me or not.. or 400 pesos in here @ the philippines..

not here in the UK (which most of us are) the cost to buy then import them drives the price up. These fish are imports from Thailand, they may not be 'show' quality but they are not being shown, there being pets :)

I'm certain xiv was only trying to educate and not be patronizing.
Please keep this thread civil. So far is ok but I can see this going downhill.
Thanks folks!
cheers!

Fish 1: cost 99p (what more could you want) hes a PK
Fish 2: Cost £2, a Marble female, might be missing a few scales, personally it doesn't matter to me
Fish 3: Again £2, i see no redwash in the vents? yes theres fin damage but that soon heals
Fish 4: again 99p.

I am 1 of those people that buys the 'drab brown' females from stores that are left there to die, just to give them a better live and the care they deserve, to me all my bettas are just as beautiful if not more so than yours, I'm sure the other members will agree with me.

Ps you missed the other 2 males i won :p

I do (slightly) understand Xiv's points but having limited access to bettas as i'm sure Xiv does not, but i really don't appreciate him/her picking faults with mine

i dont see it as picking faults. We come from all over the world here, and from all different backgrounds. Of course I am also on the side of save the drab ones. Each of my bettas are rescues and from chain stores at that. So I am guilty, if not more so (as you get your lot from breeders) of my boys being faulted and would be picked apart as well. Dont take it personally. We are a friendly community here. I dont want to see bickering.

@xiv. I *think* you are the only member at present (well, who is regularly active on the forum) who breeds bettas for show. The rest of us are hobbyists just enjoying the fish and giving them good homes. I believe that is why the OP got upset- we dont see flaws in our fish. Just makes them more special to us. I know I look for a fish i can help give a good home to, or just a "pretty" one that catches my eye. I think most posters here agree with that. I can see how it came off rude, you pointing out what is "wrong" with each fish. I honestly didnt take it that way, and thought it was interesting to learn a bit about show quality, and anyone who breeds bettas should find some sort of interest in it. Why dont you start your own thread and explain a bit more? I know I would be interested and Im sure others would as well. I only saw the post as a bit of education, but then it wasnt my fish in question which is why the OP got defensive.

I think this thread has run its course and I do not want it to escalate where folks are choosing sides. Im locking this topic.

cheers folks.
