You have 7 discus in a 2ft tank? I wouldnt worry about them growing them..

lol its a pretty deep tank, they are currently in there till i get my smaller tank set up for my breeding Geophagus iporangensis then they will be moved back to the 4 foot one!

well just added another handful of kribs and some bristlenose 2 of which are gold. also collected a double 3ft tank today

quick update after adding more plants and moving things around

Tank looks better with those new plants.

You should measure the tank and find out the amount of water it holds, not just how long it is. To find this out measure everything in inches and then go L X W X H / 231. This will give you the exact amount of water your tank holds in gallons.

thanks, I'm planning on more plants but obviously with more plants brings cleaning probs so will keep an eye on the levels first

As long as the plants aren't rotting then they don't really make the tank dirtier. If there are lots of dead leaves and such you will see and increase in D.O.C's

Plants actually help in absorbing Nitrates, the lower the better for Discus! They also help add Oxygen into the water, which all fish need!

yeah my nitrate is about 5 however it's my ammonia I need to watch due to waste gathering around the plants but I'm hoovering it twice a day so hopefully it will keep it clean. lol what is it they say bare tanks for discus and I do a few inch of gravel and plants. at least all other tank will be bare for easy cleaning

bare tanks are easier to clean but tanks with substarte can still be kept just as good water conditions as bare tank . i keep my discus with sand find it much better than gravel. i only have 2 tanks with gravel out of all of them . never keep bare tanks.

nitarte of 5 is perfect

do u have ammonia in ur tank?

I did have a slight trace of ammonia however this was due to over feeding as I had introduced new discus and they hadn't decided to start eating yet, also didn't have a gravel cleaner at the time so was causing an issue. my main tank I always like planted but my breeding tanks will be bare bottom for ease, well except the angels as they like the amazon sword
