does anyone use a sodastream cylinder in a CO2 system?
The connector looks like my avatar (can't attach picture!!!)
I've got a couple that we rarely use any more and I can get them filled more easily than the 'proper' aquarium cylinders as my lfs does't seem to do CO2.
Will an ordinary pressure regulator fit on it?
I agree with Sam: I doubt yr regulator will fit and if it did, I dont think they would last very long - - - how much gas do they hold ?
If your 'proper' cylinders are JBL, then you should be able to get them filled at a
Maidenhead Aquatics if there is one near you. Not sure where in the Midlands you are (I'm Nr Loughborough) but the one at Stapleton (Nr Hinckley) recharges a 500g bottle for £13.
However the ONLY do JBL bottles (not aquamedic etc)
I've rung around quite a number of stores in my area and no one else seems to do them - I thought of starting a thread on here listing all the shops I've tried and if they recharge CO2 or not !
Have you thought about using a 2KG CO2 fire extinguisher ?
JBL and Aquamedic regulators fit on them just fine. I picked up a fully tested, fully charged one for £30 (£15 for the bottle & £15 for 2KG of gas), each refil will cost £15.
I could have found one cheaper on ebay, but this guy is local and more than happy to provide a 'same day refil' service for me.
As an example, JBL do a 2KG cylinder .... It cost over £100 for the tank alone !
