So You Think You Like Fish?

Someone asked me the other day why I enjoyed keeping an aquarium with fish. I tried my hardest to express why I love fish so much. It's harder to explain than I thought.

So I figured I'd ask all of the cool people here at TFF!

So why does everyone like keeping fish?? What is so enjoyable about the hobby to you?

Aside from fish being amazing all in themselves- as a mother I find them to be the most patient beings in the house. Of course they beg but they wait so much more patiently than anyone else around here, everything else is loud and pushy (I say that with love!)

I just love the fact that im keeping something from that is supposed to live in a far, far away country, alive in my living room.... Im just a bit of a nature lover!

I just love to watch them - I find it so relaxing, my brain cells just seem to melt at the sight of them all swimming so peacefully.

It more than makes up for the times when you are up to your armpits in water trying to right an ornament or plant that's been knocked over and all the times when you have to mess about with the water changing, lugging buckets of water to and fro and sticking hoses out of the window to siphon out all the muck

Some days I have a long think about why I like it, and after a year I still don't know. I've always enjoyed fish, even as a kid I only ever went fishing so that I could see the fish.

I enjoy the environment aspect of it too, you have a whole different part of the world right where you live.

i just like the vibrant colours and fish are very calming, you can take your mind off things.

They are just so cool, my big plecs have real personalities and I love my hatchets as my second best fish because they are just so completely weird to look at. I also love to put my hand in and feel the little ones nibbling on it, it's just like a primeval bonding with another species.

Probably don't tell your friends that, they will think you are really odd

Fish are beautiful to watch, peaceful, elegant, and soothing.

I also like the idea of creating something out of nothing. You take a bare glass tank, add lighting, water, plants, decorations, and then you have a beautiful environment. You watch the plants pearl and grow, and every once in a while, you see a fish swim through the plants. It's a lovely hobby, I really enjoy it. It's almost like terrestrial gardening.

I'm with wuvmybetta on this one! The fish are easily the ones that give the least trouble around this house.

No, seriously, what Monkeyman and Fella said goes for me too. That feeling of having a little piece of nature in my house. I suppose I have more or less resigned to the fact that I'm never going to be David Attenborough and go to the places he goes, but this is one way I can study small bits of animal behaviour in my own livingroom.

All of the above, plus I love fishing, eating fish, iam going for my BS in Marine Biology next school year, hey any thing that has to do with fish Iam there.
