my poor little binky passed away yesterday afternoon, he'd developed dropsy after a mini cycle when the power was out nearly all weekend. i knew it's an absolute bugger to treat but he seemed to be improving, 2 hrs before we found him dead Ian said the swelling had gone down and he'd been swimming around and active. he'd been off his food for 2/3 days and i think he felt better, got hungry then overexerted himself trying to find food cos it looked to me like he'd had a heart attack. massive internal bleeding and his spine was all arched backwards. it looked absolutely horrible i was so upset.

it's been absolutely bloody ages since i've lost a fish to anything other than old age. i'm completely gutted.

that combined with the problems i've had with oscar and polly fighting and having to re-home two of my oldest fish last weekend i'm really starting to loose my motivation. all the FW tanks are driving me mad at the moment. really not happy with any of them.

:-(

Ohh hun I know how you feel.

I have been having so many fish deaths that I was gutted at one stage to, but I just persisted, and am still having deaths, but its getting easier for me.

Sometimes loosing a pet can cause heartache like loosing a loved one.

:flowers:

thanks, i'm really gutted, thought i was doing really well, hadn't lost a fish in ages and i've finally got my head around loads of teh science i never understood.

thats a shame
who got rehomed btw polly or oscar?

neither, they've called a truce for now and i'm just keeping my fingers crossed it'll last. not been able to find a suitable home for either of them.

Oh no, I'm so sorry :( I know what you're going through - we had two incidents (first lot of angels and then Dolly the angel) where I felt the same. Big hugs for you!

So sorry for your loss Miss Wiggle, he was a beautiful little fella.
:rip: Binky

thankyou

poor little thing, it's my fault really, i should have thought that having the power out for so long could cause problems, if i'd realised sooner then maybe i could have stopped it. :-(

Please don't feel bad about it, you sound as though you did everything you could.
I know it's easy to blame yourself but you obviously care a lot about your fish and that's what matters.

i always feel awful when one of them dies.

Don't lose heart or motivation - don't give up.
The fish world needs people like you, who know and understand how to give a fish a good, loving home.

awww thankyou thats really sweet :)

Oh I am sorry . You couldn't have done anything though. Sometimes sh1tty stuff happens in life and sadly, where you keep live animals, you will occasionally have dead ones. I bet he had a great life with you though. Hold on to that thought and imagine all the unhappy ones about in tiny dirty tanks with owners who don't give a toss.

aye that's what Ian kept saying last night, just think how many betta's are kept in tiny unfiltered bowls and not looked after, i think he had a good life before the last week

Oh no, that's so sad, poor you - he's was absolutely georgeous, good memories remain :-(
