Females can be kept with males but only in the right proportion or circumstances, for example breeding purposes only if you know what you doing or lack of space in which you should have as many females to one male as possible.

I felt the need to word it strongly to prevent people who are new to bettas from making big mistakes that will result in the deaths of thier fish. I was not too concerned about offending people, only in giving the information that will keep uneducated readers from getting dangerous misconceptions from posts like these that promote mixing the genders in one tank. Sorry if you were offended, but noteably, I did not direct my comments to any one person.
