So Called Betta Tanks

That one at the very bottom is probably the worst! What is the point in these stupid tanks!!! It infuriates me to think people actually like to keep there fish in these tanks.

i mean the seocnd onel ooks nice.

but how the hell are you ment to do a water change?

i agree the last one is also the worst?

Can you even FLOAT The bag?

Many breeders keep their fry and grow out their fish in quart jars which is not much more than a pint ( and predictably, no, I do not agree with that practice either, regardless of success rate, no matter how "traditional" it may be and no matter how many water changes are done )

FYI, two pints equal one quart. Therefore a one quart jar is twice as large as a pint container.

i dont like the way veiltails are treated

was it you inchworm who posted the picture on how big the bags are for transfering 9 size of a teabag :( )

Hi Knox213 :)

No, I never had a picture of them but I have seen them arrive at the lfs that way. They were in tiny sealed bags with barely enough water to keep them wet. It's no wonder so many of them have setbacks soon after people purchase them and introduce them into a healthy tank.

Depends on UK or US measures actually. A US quart is 1.6 UK pints, not two. We do not use quarts here in the uk and so had to make the comparison between US and UK measures via a volume converter.

Either way, 1.6-2 pints is a horrifically small amount of water.

I don't know who posted the pic of the bettas in tiny bags but I recall seeing it. Hundreds of the poor things each in a bag not much bigger than indeed a teabag, all piled up in a box.

The tanks oictured are really aimed at children who want a supposedly easy pet, and ignorant parents , knowing no better and not bothering to research, buy these pots and further the sales and manufacture of the horrid things.

Tiny 2 gal tanks are bad enough but these things should be banned outright, along with goldfish bowls.

That gumball machine one looks like a home made tank actually. It's that sortof thing I've seen on etsy along with giant wineglasses ect

I have taken the time to actually read this entire thread.... and taken the time to enlighten this topic a little bit not only are most if not all of these tanks not suitable due to many reasons besides the water it holds ie no heater or filtration etc.. the list goes on....

If you are sicken by someone keeping a betta in one of these tanks or on how they are shipped there are bigger issues all over the world children dieing in poverty etc.... , mind you I have seen the pineapple one in a 10 gallon tank as a decoration lol, but take the time to look here and see there are bigger issues than just fish and the housing for them. Look at these clips from Youtube one being a news crew. There is alot more issues than just the betta area and even the stores know and to freakin cheap to hire a vet!
I only recommend to look if you have a stomach for this

My point is there is alot more than just issues with bettas alot more bigger issues in the world, I guess this being a fish forum we only see that due to people starting a op about something. Some of the mentioned homes here just are not that big not even 1 gallon. As far as how they are shipped I couldn't find the video on the fish shipping on youtube where petcho gets them in and they are teabag size bags but this is how they ship wilds to where we all live!
http://www.youtube.c...h?v=BLyzRQaXh74
There is alot of information on shipping I am sure many here has had them shipped to there own door usually looking like the post above there are smaller bags than this 1 scale down for baby fish and they go as high as 20gal bags for fish
For proper storage of any fish it goes by the outdated rule so I have been told 1 inch per gallon, it also varies from specimen of betta on what to house them in, as in mouth broders where i have no experience in to imbellis and splendins. My best advice is look at your forums that are betta specific! There is no point in getting into an arguement over housing issues I just thaught I would point out there is more issues out there than just housing a betta! But on that note why can't stores invest in something like this!!!

Okay I figured after seeing all that abuse its time for a turn around so I included this to cheer everyone up now!

Hope you enjoy ^^, I put the videos just as a reminder there are worst things than the normal parent that buys a betta for there kids in life and puts it in a .5 gallon bowl!

So now after seeing all this now what is your opionion and these are pet stores!!!!!!! Where you go and buy your pets!!!!!!!
Everyone should think about it before just posting So Called Betta Bowls! What about the other issues in life???
Its simple marketing If I can put a betta in a fish bowl with colourful rocks and a deco you think it would sell??? Of course it would to a person not knowing anything about fish!! That usually is there target they care about money! Sales! Profit!

Sorry Edit

as you can see there is a little bit of a reflection of spongebob and it looks like it inside the bowl. wouldn't that freak out Bettas?

A pot so small it would easily kill a betta within a month and you're worried about a reflection?

Yes it's shallow and also contains thousands of gallons. Not one or two, thousands.

And while there are bigger issues in the world, this is the betta section on a fish forum, it's not a current affairs forum for debating world issues, its an area for posting about these fish and their care, and keeping a betta in one of the tubs posted is not care it's cruelty.

Those tanks are disgusting. Sadly I've even seen worse then those! Bettas are marketed as a fish that is very low maintenance (which we know is not true if we want them to stay healthy and happy) but unfortunately the majority of the people out there don't take the time to research these little fish properly, they just want a convenient, space-saving tank for a little fish that they'll soon forget they have!
