Like most people on this forum I get angry when I see these types of tanks.

What really annoys me is that Aquacadabra, my local fish shop in Edinburgh, not only sells these tanks but keeps one on the counter with a betta in it. On several occasions when I have been in the betta has been dead or close to it.

This is normally a really good shop, the fish are all well looked after. The staff are all very knowledgeable and most keep fish.

I think they bought about 30 of these tanks and are now wanting rid of them.

they've made gold fish bowls illeage.

Etsy ( a site for selling hand made items like jewellery and clothing ect, all sorts really ) is another place where this sort of thing occurs. I've seen sellers touting what are effectively fruit bowls and slightly oversized wine glasses as betta homes. Sticking some gravel and a cheap plastic plant in them to attempt to emphasise the point. Evidently trying to tempt the bored and lazy to buy something pretty for a table.

Have you ever concidered buyuing a betta for oyur 10 gallon tank?

they dont realy mix well with guppys but if you brought endlers and a betta they wont attack each other..

They're not illegal at all and plenty of places in and around Birmingham sell them. I live near Birminghm myself and have seen them in a lot of shops.

I love the look of the spongebob pineapple, would be brilliant to get a normal sized tank like that, say 20L minimum but its pathetic as a teeny thing.

Off the top of my head 2x2 in the Merryhill centre still sell the glass ones as well as plastic, Barnett Hill just outside Bromsgrove sell the plastic ones for sure....most small pet shops still sell them ( usually the plastic ones ) .

Almost every LFS and petshop and garden centre sell very small setups for goldfish that are completely unsuitable for goldfish ( and often bettas ) . Some of them are 5 gal tanks though and would of course be fine for a betta.

for a goldfish i'd say no.

for a betta possibly.

No sadly goldfish bowls are not illegal down here either, though there are some absolutely impressive ones about that would fit a full grown dog
