I have had my eye on buying a Snowball plec for the last few weeks but wasn't sure where I would get one from. However I finally found one at my LFS, but was shocked to find they were asking for £40 for a 2" example. Is this expensive or does this sound right for this specie?

Yes, its normal i think its because of there color i mean look at it it is beautiful and cute but dont they get to be big and old?

No they don't get particularly big, which is why the guy at the LFS said it was so expensive. As he quoted "they look beautiful, don't grow very big (6-8" max I think), which makes them very popular, hence an increased price"

Wow just shows how much prices vary around the country, most of my LFS charge around £25 for a snowball. That said though there are quite a lot of small black plecs with white spots L004/5 kind of, L16, L17, L30, L107, L235, L254, L259/LDA32 all have differnt types of spots and granted some are impossibly rare, there are more but after a quick flick through the L library its just what I glanced at. In particular I know there is a breeder in aquarist classifieds that has some L235, I had one in the past and its a great little plec, needs a slightly meaty diet but other than that great fish really active and lives upto its name of flyer plec when it swims around the upper levels :) Just a thought
