Hey,
A friend really wants a snake for his birthday and I'm no expert on the things! Unfortunately milk snakes (the one he wanted) can't be found in our local pet shops and the best thing we can see in there is a corn snake. Anyone have any ideas for a good type to look for? thanks

Corns are great as a starter snake and come in a vast array of colour morphs. Check out some private breeders if you can as you'll pay half the price compared to reptile shops.

ive had both a corn and milk snake, theyre fun to keep, I also kept a garter once, but it latched onto me everytime i put my hand in the terrarium

Ball Pythons/Royal Pythons are great first snakes too. Very easy to handle and don't get much longer than a corn snake but thicker in the body. I have 2 at the moment and they are probably the only two that friends that are wary of snakes will hold

Aww thanks I didn't expect this many replies! :D All of you have been very helpful and I will check out all these species :good:
