Snails!

Most fish won't bother with brown algae, especially Otto's. Plecs normally only eat green algae.

Turn your lights off for two hours a day. That should stop it ;)

I rekon some snails do more harm than good. When they die they can spike your ammonia, not too bad if your keeping Goldfish but not good if you have Discus.
They won't be able to keep up with the algae and will eat your plants. They dont know whats off the menu ;)

I thought ottos are the best fish for eating brown algea.

I dunno about slime algae though, I didn't think fish really liked it much.
Especially cynobacter. That's a real pain. I used Melafix to get rid of that ;)

I had a brown algae problem; I got a Bristlenose plec and he cleaned it up pretty quickly. He's also fun to watch. :)

yeah BN's all the way..not many plecs will eat brown algae..but bristlnose's love the stuff..

by far the best algae eater.. ottos are useless in larger tanks IMO

Never had a BN but I know now ;)

I know that some species of fish eat different types of algae. Ottos would probably only make a difference in a small tank. ;)

At least in my experience, ottos were ONLY good in eating brown algae and almost useless in other types of algae, especially the hair alagae....

I though no fishes eat hair algae except SAE, and I've been looking for SAE for a while. Finally I gave up and came back home one day, and all hair algae were gone! (I forgot to feed my BN vegetables for about 2 weeks... ). So BNs eat even hair algae when they are hungry.

sam and gixer, what sort of bristlenoses do you have - I've been told that there are loads of them?

I have a big problem with brown algae on my plant leaves making them look (and feel) disgusting. Will a b.nose eat this off and keep them clean? There isn't a great deal of algae in other parts of the tank.

Any info as you've got b.noses would be appreciated - I'm really starting to think I should get one................

Yeah! Snails are Jewish too! Just kidding, making a point. When you say that things are gay, and meaning it in a bad way, it is also saying that you have something against gay people, which you may or may not. This can make people mad.
