Hi all

I have a 38 gall well planted tank with CO2 setup all plants doing really well, saying that I have
constant battle with snails. I have tried all dark traps ect but can`t seem to get them under control and they are starting to eat alot of the plants.
Just flicked the lights on(11.30pm) and there were loads of the little fellas, really shocked and I need to get them under control.
I have a good stock of red cherry shrinmp also in the thank plus usual cat fish and shoal fish.

Whats the best way to control the snails eating my plants without effecting the shrimp......?

Any ideas Please.....!

Would snail eating snails work if so how do i control them with out having the same problem...!

regards

You are probably voer feeding? I know that a few months ago, my tank was INFESTED with snails, I cut down the feeding to once a day, or once every two days, and I havent seen a snail since. After they have died, you can resume normal feeding again, I tried everything, and this is all that worked for me :)

hi there im having the same problem
we brought the tank last week and it had lots of snails which we wasnt told about at time of buying....
anyway i was looking at snail eating fish and was wondering if the zebra loach are realy good
snail eaters its says they eat them but how fast lol
im new to the forum so hope someone can help me oit on this please
thank you

Just try cutting down on feeding first, worked for me.

well i went and brought 2 zebra loach
read about them and it says nothing about them eating shrimps so thought id give it a go.

had a look at the asasin snails but they was so small i thought it'l take forever to eat
all the snails lol and not only that i realy dont like snails at all.

my zebra loach's have fit in realy well with the corys and seem to hang around them
havent seen them eat a snail yet tho lol only been in 2 hrs so hope in time they will.....
they are stunning fish look so cute...might think about another 2 soon. x

Assasin snails are the best solution I've found so far. They do eat an incredible amount of little snails.

They are an attractive looking small snail that even dig into the substrate in search of their prey. Even though they have plenty to eat, I have seen no sign of their reproducing although I would be happy if they did.

This picture will give you an idea of how many snails were in the tank
