snails & LFS

How big do they grow AA or should I say what sized tank do they grow in? If I'm not careful my 10 gal is going to be overrun with them.

Snails or chain loaches?

Chain loaches are little fish that grow a maximum of 2 inches, but they're very skinny. The wild snails I've been infested with can grow to 1/2 inch long maybe, but its not the size, its the numbers.

sorry meant being overrun with the snails, the ones I've got in the tank are small round probably only up to about 5mm wide but I seem to lose another few leaves on my plant over night. I know the ancistrus has a munch every now and again but nowhere near the amount that snails are consuming.

Cheers Eddie, will have a look at that site.

lots of snails ( if not most ) are hermaphrodite but to quote from applesnail.net
"- Apple snails are gonochoristic (separated sexes) so one needs a male and a female snail (obvious)."

This means that if you keep only one in your tank then no patter of little pseudopodia.

Apple snails - at least the Pomacea bridgesii species do not eat live plants and so are great in the planted tank. The ones that came with your plants probably are not apple snails but common water snails who will eat all your plants and breed like crazy.

I also got my apple snails from Maidenhead Aquatics. I have put in a link to their site - maybe there is one near you.
