I've noticed some very small snails in my cycling tank today. As the tank is still cycling and I have no fish yet I would like to get rid of the snails as far as possible before I get any fish as I would be able to use chemicals that I wouldn't be able to use if I have fish, if that makes sense.

Anyway, does anyone know if Waterlife Sterazin would work to kill snails? I ask because it is often recommended to steralise plants with, and I happen to already have some. I googled Sterazin and snails and came up with hits saying that snails won't tolerate Sterazin, but most of this was from old forum posts (not from here) which I couldn't read in full. I also came up with posts saying Sterazin is copper-based, and I know snail remedies are normally copper based.

Oh and if it's not very good, any recommendations for something that will work (which is availble in the UK) much appreciated.

ive heard there is somthing that you can by that kills em....both my tanks are over run with the critters  i litterally pick em as i see them,a good way apparently is to get a glass bottle and fill it with lettuce and leave it on the floor overnight<inside the tank, without the lid on>this should collect a faiiiir few,but problem will never go fully, eggs in the gravel/in the filter they get everywhere

Thanks Nelly, I read a topic about the different ways to kill snails, Ijust thought that since I have no fish it might be easier to nuke them with something chemical without fear of it harming any fish.

Thanks Apolloefc but my tank's tiny, only 30L, far too small for clown loaches

i take mine out and squish them in my snail graveyard (a shoe box lid atm) :shifty:

edit: i spot someone else from notts! :)

Hi
I had the exact same problem in my newly planted tank before adding a fish i used Esha Gastropex snail treatment which i bought from Maidenhead Aquatics you dose twice firstly to kill existing snails then again 2 weeks later for newly hatched eggs. It worked nicely for me good luck
