thought 1) what does smb actually stand for?? i thoguht about it and came up with... stick man's body!!! hmm... :fun:

thought 2) not as interesting (except to alien anna, perhaps), but i think a.a should be made into a moderator  , because she's nearing 1000 posts, in fact, shes beating smb - who happens to be a mod!! hmm...

Alrighty then..............

First off smb stands for "small mouth bass" because smb enjoys fishing.

The amount of post's a person has has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with being a moderator....here or basically on any other site.

Most moderators are friends of whoever runs the site (not to say that anyone doesn't deserve to be a mod). Most sites run on the principal that there should be just a few mods (usually one for each discussion). Too many mods would lead to conflict or would end up being silly. Ever hear of the old saying " Too many chiefs and not enough indians"? The role of a mod is to make sure everyone plays by the rules.

Although this board has lots of mods (understandably so - it's a very busy board), it seems to require little moderating. The people here are so polite compared to other boards. I've yet to see a single 'troll' here. Try a message board belonging to a pro sports team on for size. :hyper:

I am a mod and i have never met William (the site owner) in my life, nor have many of the other mods (or so i think  ). Of course im not saying i wouldnt count William as a friend if i were to meet him but the mods who work on this board are all people who have a genuine love of the hobby and at least a few years experience of fish keeping plus a good working knowledge of fish and fish related matters.

Thanks everyone! Although I love this board and loved writing the article etc. I know I'm not mod material (like smb, for instance). I just find it stressful being responsible - I'd rather have other people making the decisions. I've tried being a mod on various other groups but its never worked out for me and I don't want to feel burdened by my hobby (I do this to escape the worries of my "real life").

Being a mod is about more than just being keen and posting a lot - in fact, some of the mods rarely post. It's about taking responsibility for the board - a job they do extremely well actually.

No offence taken - I too have never met any of the other mods, but would like to call them friends. If I don't post a lot, it doesn't mean I'm not around. If a right answer has already been given, then I don't feel that I have to add my 2p's worth. I, along with the other mods, regularly check the posts to make sure that there's no problems, and that everything is running smoothly.

Oh yes, I agree, the mods here are great. I go to 4 different forums and the mod at this one forum(no names...) are quite annoying, you mispelt something, or did'nt not use capitals, or just a slithg mistake, they will warn you, otherwise, your post will be deleted. I mean thats good, but its kinda overkill IMHO. We wanted to know about the hobby, not to learn english lessons. I do see thier reasons for doing that, but the board where you post site issues, many people have complained that their posts are gone, or move without thier knowledge...geez.

Anyway, I just wanted to give this to the mods/site managers... :- great job!

I'm still at school however I spend as much time here as I can. I think I am quite active I go one usually twice a day. When I finish school I'll be on more often. ;) SMB you like fishing?....ME TOO. Crab season coming up for me :D

Maybe this is a totally bizarre question, but Kossy and smb, do you catch and eat or catch and release? Don't think I'm being judgemental; I eat tons of fish and seafood. I just don't know if I could go out there and actually do it myself... after all the endless hours of coddling my little fish .. You know what I'm getting at. lol

I love seafood. I catch and eat I also catch and release. I'm currently catching carp with my friend so we have some crab bait ;)
