Hi, I have a Hagen elite stingray 15 and I hate it.
It's ugly, causes a huge current and I think it's killing my small fish.
When I got my tank and cycled it one of the first fish i put in it were a group of 6 small neon tetras, and after I got them they died 1 sometimes 2, always at night while I was asleep, I figured this was something to do with P@H as some of my other fish from there ended up diseased and taken back. In the end I treated my tank and sorted it out and started again.

I currently have the following reading 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, <5 nitrate (I'm not sure about this result as it ALWAYS seems to come out 0), 24 degrees celcius and a pH of around 8, I have live plants and the current stock list:
2 African Dwarf Frogs
2 Honey Gouramis (1 male, 1 female)
5 Kuhli loaches,
5 Crystal red shrimp
and 8 Blue tiger shrimp
2 Celestial pearl danio (used to be 6)

Anyway my problem is I got the danios thursday last week and I had my suspicions about 1 when I got him as he seemed to have a red circle around where his heart was that none of them had, anyway theyve been dying 1 by 1 every night like clockwork in the same part of the filter the neons have. Theres 2 little holes at the back next to the suction pad things and I always find one of them dead in there when I wake up. What should I do? should I get a new filter today? Or is it not my filter? I can't see any symptoms wrong with the danios

Thanks for reading :)

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
Wha\'s the make of the test kit you are using?

Stuff some filter matting in the holes. I had a filter with two suction caps, and one kept falling off which left a hole for fish to get into the filter. I just stuffed the hole with filter floss. No more fish able to get into the filter.

The red circle did it look like bleeding beneath the skin.

60 litres, API master test kit. I had the same thought when I was at my lfs earlier and it seems to be working okay so far but we'll see tonight :). The red circle could definately be bleeding but it's been a few days now and hes still eating fine / acting normal. :)

Your tank looks overstocked to me. Also there far to many bottom dwellers for your tank size.

Make sure the red circle is not bleeding beneath the skin as that can be septicemia.

I don't think it's bleeding under the skin as it hasnt gotten any bigger since I've got him and its only on 1 side of his skin.

Are you sure? If I'm honest it doesnt really seem overstocked, my frogs like to sit in the plants and behind my filter when theyre feeling particulary lazy while my shrimps all seem to sit on the underside of leaves, either way I'll be getting a new tank in a month or so which I hope will limit the damage then if I am indeed overstocked.

I would only use this med if you can isolate. Myxazin by waterlife with having the frogs and shrimp.
