hello everyone i would like to buy 1 koi and keep it in a tank by itself i know the 10 gallon will be fine at first since the fish is only 1 inch long i wanted to know how long would it be before it will outgrow the 10 gallon and also what size tank will i end up having when it gets fully grown this is something i am willing to do and i will go with the bigger tank when it starts to get bigger thanks for your time also what is the longest the koi can get

A Koi should reach 1/2 of it's expected adult size in the first 2-3 years so a 10G tank is not big enough for anything more than a quarantine tank for a few weeks. They should grow at more than 1" a month for the first year so a 10G tank would cause stunting problems during this critical developmental stage.

They need to be in a pond with at least 300G per Koi and at least 1,000 to 1,500 gallons as a bare minimum size with really good filtration.

u'd have to rehome him really soon. if u cant then i suggest u dont get one

Koi dont like being in tanks so best to stick to a fancy variety for now. You would be looking at a minimum of 200 gallons for it and heavy filtration so i would say no too.
