hi,
I am getting a new male betta soon and was just wondering if anyone knows how to slow down the current of the filter as it gives out quite a powerful flow. it is a mini elite filter if that helps lol

cheers

Dunno about the different makes/models of filter outside of Australia really.. clog the intake tube with filter floss. Don't clog it all the way along, it will stuff it up. Failing that, clog up the outlet, or just put loads and loads of floss in the box. Build a stack of rocks along the side of the tank and position the outlet over that, or aim it directly at the glass.

plants help....i have a 1.5 cube with an art deco nano filter. its pretty powerful so i use my flat heater. the heater is nothing special, just keeps the tank 4 degrees above room temp. its thin and rectangle so i just kinda lay it over the outflow. its nice because the heat is circulated perfectly and the tank has a lot less current. im sure theres many things you can find at home that will work.

with the floss idea, be careful doesnt have any added chemicals. some flosses have strong flavors and such.

There isn't any real way to reduce the flow from most power filters so the majority of people simply aim the outlet towards the side or corner of the tank. Some filters like the Aquaclear external filter that hangs on the side of the tank, have a lever at the top of the intake pipe. This can be moved from side to side and reduces or increases water flow.
