Slightly Cloudy Water... Day 3 Fishless Cycle... No Ammonia, No Nitrit

Maybe take a ~20ml sample to a fish store for them to test in front of you (probably be a charge of at least £1 for this), or buy another ammonia test kit (or even a strip test) to compare results against this existing API one?

Will do just to check it out properly but im pretty sure everything is fine with the test kit given that my test of ammonia and tap water came up as expected.

Silly thought, have you run a test in a bucket with the same concentration as your tank. could be your test kit that's off. I'd go for the same concentration rather than a strong one so you could compare

I know for mine it was 12 drops of a typical med dropper in 5gals(US) to achieve 4ppm. Didn't check to see how much ml that actually was.

I am gradually adding more and more slowly, definatly the ammonia that is weaker than it should be as test kit is going higher and higher Found my answer to my issue hopefully it will go to plan and I will meet 5ppm tonight!

WOW that's a lot of ammonia Hopefully someone from your side of the pond can verify if that is normal for that brand.

I will make sure the water is double tested by a local shop before i put any fish in but I do think it is just weak ammonia... well hope else ill have to start again

Oh gosh that is the same ammonia that I had and I only needed 3.8mls for 90l tank....

I honestly think that must be the case! Is yours the Homebase value ammonia it is just a plain white bottle with orange logo?

Yes that is the one! When I take the lid off mine it can make your eyes water

Well mine didnt smell or make eyes water deffinatly the bottle! Thanks anyway glad ive sorted the issue now!

If all else fails you could pee into rthe tank? heard of people doing that before now lol!
