Slate Caves

Hey smithrc, my male bristle keeps kicking his eggs out and I end up having to hatch them in a breeding trap.Do you think if I made a slate cave with a lip on the front this would stop him doing it?Or do you have any other suggestions?

Ooops sorry to hijack your thread I didnt realise you were selling them.

it takes me about 1 hour to cut up slate for 8 caves...

then about 5-10 mins each cave to stick them together...

so adding up and averaging out means about 15 mins a cave.

Can I factor in the recovery time?? :D
I've got a bad back and dogey knees. That along with the fact that its a cold and wet job means it takes me another 2 hours of moaning and whining to straighten back up after the hour on my knees cutting the slate :D :D
(and I'm only 28! That's Motor bike accidents for you :()

hehe couldnt help but laugh. i contracted the deadly ross river fever (caught from mosquitos) a couple of years ago and it leaves you with arthritis. im only 28 and i can imagine how i would feel these days after doing something like that :) good job!!!!

Caves arrived. They look great, not that ayone appears to have moved into them yet. Hopefully with time someone will take up residence.

Thanks again
Ian

Lorna did a sterling job while I was away :)

Glad your happy with them, and hopefully they will have inhabitants soon :)
Get some piccys up if you can - a picture says a thousand words :)

hmm...

How many spawns has he had?
I would it 2-3 before our male got the hang of it - and he relapses sometimes too.
Either that or we're not seeing something wrong with them that he can see....
I've had single fry evicted from spawns before - just one out of 20+... and it normally has some sort of deformity.

I've had males kick the eggs out if another male tries to get in on the action too....
Is it just one male?

Yup just the one male, hes had maybe 6 or so clutches and about half the time he kicks them out(in the whole clump).Looks like I messed up this time I thought having the breeding trap near the filter outlet would suffice but they began going moldy.I out in an airstone but it was too little too late and i'll be lucky to get half a dozen fry(although a few have hatched already).

Just lost our latest clutch of zeb eggs to fungus :(

Bump :)

I'm still making and selling these...

I have however had to put the P&P on single caves up - they were costing £2 just for the postage - but royal mail has just upped their rates :(
