Skimmer?

rite, i would search the forum as i expect its a common question, but what doe a skimmer actually take out of the water and when are they essential? thanks in advance summat fishy

Dissolved organic compounds (DOC's). These can break down and lead to increased nutrients (phosphate/nitrate especially), and can be irritating to hard corals. Skimmers are almoast required in tanks jam-packed with stony corals, and/or messy predator tanks (lionfish, frogfish, mantis shrimp, eels, triggers, etc). They are not really required on nano tanks (where water changes are easy), or on softy or fish only tanks.

I'd say a Deltec HOB
Dont bother with a redsea one, not worth diddly squat
