Can anyone please tell me what skimmer i could fit to my rio240,without cutting the rear flap??. i have seen the Seaclone+biostar. These 2 would, i think fit if i elongated the rear left hand cut out (keeping at the same depth) thus allowing the skimmer to fit.......... is this so??
I have fell into the trap of visitig several fish shops and web sites and each one slates whatever skimmer i would like to fit!!! The prizm seems to be pushed in my face but it seems that this is both noisey and involves using an axe on the rear flap.... is that the case?
I intend on stocking my tank with soft corals and 5-6 fish
I intend to buy the eheim2028,New Ibar t5 light unit and continue using the juwel internal filter with new sponges of course.
Any advice from someone that has had the same dilemma or has used any of the above skimmers would be really appreciated..soon if poss because my heads pickle PS Ihave between 25 and 30 malawi fish for sale or swap for marine equipment

the rio 240 has a flat top correct so without cutting it or getting a sump i dont think you can get a skimmer in. jewel do replacement flaps or just get some black perspex and cut to shape. does your 240 have 2 u shapes in the back if it has you might be able to use a pipe fed skimmer

I dont know of any Juwel hood that will house a skimmer without modifications. I have a Juwel Vsision 180 and this used to be fitted with a Prizm Skimmer. The hood needed a section cut out of it for the skimmer to fit.

Lastly, how effieicent do you want the skimmer to be? If you want to underskim then perhaps a Prizm as it is by far fro being an effieicent skimmer.

had a look in local shop today guess what either the seaclone or biostar will fit
but which one? or are they as they say pants!!? now my head is really done in!
Get a deltec 500 was his suggestion ? but less space in the tank then any suggestions pls

the deltec mce600 is supposed to be very good.
it has fairly small in/out tubes, so you wouldn't have to cut too much of your hood.

I'd say the deltec MCE600 for a hang on type skimmer or the MC500 for an internal. out of the two you have mentioned, I'd go for the biostar flotter, which may underskim your tank.

ste :)

well i'm up and running... finally!!!!. I opted to go for the best... i think mce600.I have one question and that is its only been on the set up a few hours, i set the ventura at 2 oclock as per instuction however i'm getting very fine air bubbles back into tank.... is this because of the "newness" ?
