Nothing is ever certain-

I was researching ammonia and reading recent studies. I came across a very technical paper on how fish defend against ammonia and all of the biochemistry and physiology involved. I could not understand a lot of the the more technical aspects, but I could grasp the gist of most of it. I thought maybe making a post in the Scientific section would be interesting. But I like to provide the title and authors of a piece of research when I do this.

But I cannot because one of the two researchers has a first name that will not pas the censorship filter here. Suffice it to say his first name rhymes with hit.

You have to love this stuff.

Here is the study if you are interested in how ammonia works in fish- Ammonia Production, Excretion, Toxicity, and Defense in Fish: A Review

You read all that?!?! Wow. Well ill take your word for it that its a good read

I was on a sports forum until it recently folded and we were looking for the most unfortunate name of a sports person once.  Suffice to say a baseball player with the first name Rusty and a surname that started with "K" and ended with "tz" (rhymes with a famous author with the first name Stephen) was the standout winner.  He was a redhead, which made the name Rusty even more ironic.

Poor man. It also must be hard with a name that means something else in another language.

Initials and surname would be fine, surely?

Yes, or Doctor Chew would suffice. Surely that someone has a name that is a curse word is a rare enough event that one can come up with an alternative. I could understand a complaint if the name was John and that was blocked but the name is a common curse in the English language.

I think this was intended to be more of an amusing anecdote rather than a complaint :)

I'm trying to make K...tz rhyme with King.

Don't worry, I think I get where I'm going wrong ;)

yes- this post was made with tongue in cheek and not with the complaint box in mind.

But I much prefer to read papers, or at least try to do so, than I am unquestioningly to accept information on fish sites. I cannot tell you how many times I read about chloramines wiping out the nitrifying bacteria in tanks. Until I found the research papers which showed otherwise. Or how about something as simple as ammonia in water existing in two forms? How many hobbyists even know there are two forms? So now I understand that the person with an African rift lake tank has a lot more to fear from .25 or .5 ppm reading for total ammonia than the fish keeper with a South American tanks. One has immediate action required while the other has time to think and deal with things and perhaps do nothing depending on the situation.

And I may be in trouble here with daize being able to understand my motivation to make this post. I am losing my mystery

If you wanted to cite the article with the authors' names, there were ways pointed out to you to do it without being deliberately disrespectful towards the authors as you have done here. Poking fun at someone's name like this is completely unnecessary, culturally insensitive, and quite inappropriate for a forum with international participation.
