Hi guys. Just a thought that passed through my mind for some time way in the future (probably). Can a single female be kept on her own or does she need to be in a group, say 6ish? And in any case what sort of company should she keep? I'm assuming the like of a (or some) platy/molly/sword and bottom-dwellers would be okay but perhaps not anything with long fins? Cheers. :)

Yep a single girl is fine, I had my girl on her own with different tank mates. If you want a group you can too but like you said 5 or 6 is the minimum to reduce aggression.

If you want a female on her own there are many suitable tank mates. Cardinal Tetra, platies, rasboras, cory, snails. Basically any peaceful fish that's isn't territorial and doesn't have long flashy fins like guppies.

Cheers. I once saw some stunning deep red females but didn't have a tank for them at the time, and of course they sold very quickly. I thought one could have looked quite striking with equally boldly coloured (black, white, orange, yellow) platies/mollies. The iridescent colouring on some of the glolight tetra/rasbora and Cardinal Tetra would offset it nicely with perhaps come Peppered Cory for the bottom. Hmmm, I'll save that one under 'one day'. :good:
