I just went in the tank ) Uggh,I had to do it!! The airline tubing had come up out of the water the other day when I moved the tank,so I had to scootch it down a bit. He seemed cool with it. Since he's known me his entire life he may not see me as a threat I hope not anyway. I also shined a flashlight on the nest really quick. There's quite a few unhatched or possibly hatching. Since they spawn for hours I can only assume that the eggs hatch at different times as well.
Bah!! Well, last night (fri) before I went to bed,dad was happily caring for 200+ fry. This morning I woke up late for a meeting, but still thought enough to go check on him...nest was GONE! And there were around a dozen fry. I yanked him out and now I'm just hoping the remaining fry make it to free swimming. They're still unsteady & falling,I remember my other oranges did that forever too. Having been my first spawn I thought it was normal Anyway,it's a disaster area, fry are dead all over the bottom and I doubt those remaining will make it.
On a more miraculous note. The other/first spawn where everything went bad... I left the tank up just in case and I'll be darned if there wasn't a lone fry stuck to the glass!! He's the only one. Then he fell when I bumped the tank and I watched him struggle back up to the top and stick. Then he disappeared off the face of the planet. So I can only hope that he became freeswimming and has taken refuge beneath some plants.
What a brat! I hope the remaining guys are ok As well as Mr Lonesome in the other tank. Those orangies give you way too much trouble, at least they're such great fish
I'm so mad at him, and I'll be praying for those babies
They'll need it Uggh, I knew this all seemed to be going too well! My gut told me to take him out last night but the fry still looked so helpless and he seemed ok,except he went a little bonkers when I turned the aeration up a hair
