I was asking questiong at my LFS and got sent to this url, does the infromation seem as inaccurate to you as it does to me? The silver dollars in the picture are exactly the same as mine identical but there are 3 different variety at the LFS all under the name silver dollar but look quite different and I was told tend to grow larger. http://www.wardleyfish.com/Fish/fin%20fact...asp?A=4&SKU=C16 Anyones comments?

It isn't very much info. really.......

I think the size is wrong really......they have been know to get up to 8" in captivity and over 12" in the wild...... They are relatives to the Pacu and Piranha.

Everything else seems to be good though!

*chuckles, the only fish I keep with my babies are Gouramis, catfish and a pleco would anything slightly agressive towards them gets returned or removed to another tank. I've personally found that as the silver dollars get larger they lose their shyness and I've once seen them go after my poor molly.

I keep my silvers with some semi aggressive fish, they share their tank with a couple of Leporinus, a small garfish, a juvinile snakehead, a dwarf pike cichlid and a pair of Geophagus brassiliensis, when they are full grown they will be moved into the 200g with all my big predators.

I don't know how big your tank is, but if you're considering adding silver dollars they need a LARGE tank. I have a 55 and took back 2 baby silver dollars. It's just not fair to keep such a large, active fish in cramped quarters. ;)

I agree tmlhaus......

I was often sad while watching my 4 SDs in my 55. Two of them died recently....and I'm not saying I'm happy by any means, but it does give the other two a tad bit more room..... :-( :X

Silver-they are a schooling fish and really should be in groups of at least 6. 55 is still too small a tank for any of them though...

Thanks for the insight...... ;)

I think they will get on just fine the two of them.......long story, but I think I am done with this species for a while.

Sad? Eh, maybe, but it is better for me at this point to just have the 2.....and I'm not about to run out and get a bigger tank right now. That is just something that will have to wait!

Thanks though!
