Ive been given 4 silver dollers from a friend (member of TFF) You know who you are :good:

Anyway I posted this in the Cyprinids, Characins and Atherinids thread but got a few views but no replys

Back to the problem. When i get them home they were a bit sheepish hiding etc etc but know there pretty active scooting about the tank crashing into things when they get scared nothing outta the ordinary but when i flicked my light on the the other night i noticed some kind of scale condition. Ive managed to get some pics so here they are.

It started on 1 fish now 3 of the 4 seem to have it. It seems to rub off they get too close to a plant or 1 of the rocks when it does it floats about the tank the otha fish seem to eat the kinda flakes

Ive got the tank temp @ bout 28c
Tank mates are as follows; (2 corys (i know i need 6) 9 Odessa barbs,3 female guppies and 3 what ive been told are german blue rams (after reading a thread i dont think they are)

plastic plants,Gravel substrate, slate, granite stone and a plastic log thing are the decor.

Anyone seen anything like this before? the fish seem happy tho bit fightend of sudden movements (usual temperment for dollars)

Cheers

It looks like either a bacterial infection or water quality affecting there slime coat

Do you have a test kit ?

Didnt now dollars had a slime coat  Give me 10 minz and ill do a full water test but I tested it on tuesday wen i had a death :-( my pleco died posted up on here bout it but couldnt figure out why. Ill post up the results soon as thanks for the reply.

Yeah all fish do :good:

Sorry about your pleco hopefully we can stop any more deaths :good:

This is why i wanted to get it sorted incase i do have anymore deaths nothing worse than having to pull out a dead fish form the tank

Test Results

Using a Nurafin Liquid Test Kit

pH -7.0 (not important i know but ill put it in anyway.)
Ammonia -0
Nitrite -0.1 (this is normally about 0.0)
Nitrate -10

Dude that looks pretty horid

I PROMISE they have never had anythin like that when i had them. They were always fine (as you saw).

Maybe they just miss their old owner

Its strange that its spread from 1 to the others though, have any of your fish got anythin growing on them?

I'm so sorry this has happened man  but i was positive they'd be happier in a longer tank so they could get a good we run cause they just didnt get that in my corner tank.

LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE SPENCE!!!

K/O Its really strange ive scouted everywhere and i cant find anything that relates to this :/

Its a bit sad really i dont want them to die. I dont know if it might have somthing to do with stress dues to being bagged up then having to go through 1 5 min car journey then getting landed in a totally new surrounding.

I mean if i got blind folded and taking a car journey and ditched in a place i didnt know id be pretty stess ananw!
:-( Poor fishes

P.s the otha fishe seem fine.

You still got your we old tank? Might be an idea to take them out and give them some treatment?

It kinda looks like a fungal infection to me but i'v never saw anythin like that before, so not sure at all.

Try googlin it and see what comes up.

dont have a heater for it tho :( and if i put four into that wee tank would be a shame.

what treatment do i need though? if the dollars have an ifection the fish might have it too so id be aswel treat all of em.

IF its a fungal infection, you can get an anti-fungas treatment. Iv used 1 called Interpet anti fungas and finrot. Nip into the big pets at home after you finish work and see what they have (or ryans if you finish early), its about £4.50 a bottle of the stuff though. Even ask them what they think too (just take advice with a pinch of salt).
But my guess is its some sort of fungas, thats what i would be tryin to treat, but i'm no expert, so take my advice with a pinch of salt too.

Good luck brother

anyone else got any ideas?

Cheers spence. Goin up to Govan the morra so am gona ask the mad guy wee bought fish off last time we where up. See if he knows anything. Hes seems as if he knows a wee bit bout fish.

I'd say try some melafix as it looks like there slime coats been affected and if that has no affect try fungal treatment

:good: Thanks to both of you. Ill get sum tomoz morning.

Done a 20% water change tonite and a wee quick gravel vac then done a water test and the levels are still the same so thats good. Hopfully i sum meds will clear up any infections.
