! Silver Arowana Pictures ! Page 6 !

Just yesterday i was asked by someone who is a consultant to the zoo industry if i had room to house some very large fish that a customer of his could no longer house, this guy knows everyone there is to know in the tropical and exotics trade and industry (he did a lot of the behind the scenes handling work on the new reptile series that starts tonight on BBC1) and he said he had exhausted every channel he knew of to rehouse these fish and no where could take them, the fish were pacu, RTC, TSN and arowana's. Obviously i couldnt house them either so it is likely these fish will end up being put down unless a miracle happens.

Big fish are difficult to re home so you really need to ask yourself honestly can i afford £2000 for a tank to house a fish that will grow to around 3 feet in 3 years, do i have the space to place such a tank and can i afford the long term upkeep of running a tank that size. If the answer to all those questions is yes then you are one of the lucky few in that situation, two years ago i would not have been able to have the fish that i do now and it is only through luck and the generosity of my inlaws that i am in the position i am now.

if people who cannot care for them properly stopped buying then our lfs would stop ordering them and its problem solved.

Ahh well soon my 270gal will hopefully be up and running because in exactly a month I'll be 14 :good: ...And should hopefully get some money.Either way I'm pretty sure it will be ready to grow out Adams aro in.

Now you've even got me saying he won't get a new tank, seriously guys stop whining about Adams aro (and others), its fine at the moment, you bring up a good point but as geo said let it sit, time will tell...

Adams not the previous guy who kept an aro in a small tank, so I don't see why he should get the stick.Just look at the first rude comment (marks), completely out of order...

here here and nice 1 mate

We wasnt saying about growing it up we were saying about when its big as it wont last much longer in your tank that it would in his as his tanks is 5ft long and yours is 6.

Quick question what do you think a tank ssize should be for a fully grown silver aro.

personally? I dont think they should be kepy in tanks smaller then 8ftx8ft8xft.

But you have no right to say he will kill his aro, without knowing what he plans to do with it. It was rude and disrespectful. Just because you think your fish afre great, does not mean everyone thinks the sun shines out of your ####.

I think youre the one being rude and disrespectful, not just to Mark or Cane, but also to Adam:

i hope adam does give the silver arowana the tank it deserves but the chances are it will end up on ac early next year along with all the others that were brought with good intensions, but are now stuck in small tanks.

Do you even know Adam? Please show me the proof that there is a high probability that he will not give the aro a decent sized tank?

Oh look there isn't any.

Get a life and stop being such a condesending tw*at.

(The chances are that you don't even know what that means)

SO basically you dont have a clue so maybe you should not comment its not just myself who thinks that he shouldnt have that fish so will everyone else who has any experiance or knowledge on keeping owning any arowana the only people that will comment cor, wow great are people who dont realise just how much it take to look after a silver aro.

Actually, I do realise what keeping an aro takes. I told him not to get one on msn. Personally, I dont see why anyone keeps aros because they are ugly as. I suppose its a case of small penis syndrome. Trying to make up for it with big fish. Ah well. Gutted for you, try surgery. You can get at least another 5" put on. :good:

Good luck, hope the big tank works out, and BTW, nice aro :)

Thanks very much :hyper:

Sounds really well planned out, good one ;) do hope, for the aro's sake, it goes well.

I think the extra 3ft in width would help out, and the larger water volume (+170gallons) I'm sure would aid growth to start off with...All I'm saying is if the worst comes I could take it for a short time.Considering most information on the net recommends less than that for a minimum (I know they deserve more than that, I'm just saying thats what most information says) it would be better than what most people could give it anyway.
Adam's already quoted Windsor and BOSS aquatics for prices, so hopefully he will go through with it.

aros are ugly how can you say that have you ever kept one

silver aros grow very fast

...you dont need to keep one to know if its ugly. That is a REALLY stupid comment.

beauty is in the eye of the beholder

some people may think every fish you keep is ugly

who care what you think anyway its not like you are a judge in a beauty contest is it

at the end of the day silver aros get way to big for most people to keep if you like aros and thats the fish you want to keep then get an asian green ok they are a bit more expencive than a silver aro but buy the time you add up all the costs of a tank for a silver aro asian greens are cheap and a great fish

if i was you i would sell the silver aro now before its to late as stated above large silver aros are near impossable to sell and it will grow fast 1-2inch per month and it will eat most of your tank mates

a silver aro is a big comitment more so than a dog you should think long and hard about it 1st

they say a tank should be at least 3 x the lenght of a aro so a 12ft x 4ft should do you cant wait to see the pics of that tank

i will put as much money as you want on that you dont have this aro in 1yr to 18 months
