my silicone seems to be slowly coming off.

its not peeling, but it seems from maybe using my magfloat that it has slowly started to eat away at my silicone.

im more careful now when i clean with my magfloat, but i found out to late.

there is one corner where one side of the corner is almost all gone of silicone?
is this safe?

this weekend im switchg my ugly big gravel to a layer of flourite, and then small gravel, so i can silicone it if its needed. but im not sure.

is it usualy for the showing silicone in a tank to slowly go away?

thanks

hi . your tank is probably about 10 years old and in need of a rebuild . theynormaly last 10 years then need it . if you can see that between the glass is smokeyor has bubbles in it RUN FOR YOUR LIFE . haha no it just means a limited life is left . i rebuild old and build new ones all the time . however when they do let go the gless doesnt usualy break unless the center brace lets go . the bit of silicone mising isnt dangerouse (it meens the whole tank is). i can fix it new if you want to send it to darwin lol. good luck .

actually its only a little bit over a year old

uh oh, my home made 20 gallon my dad made has bubbles in the silicon, is that bad? its pretty old

it depends if the bubbles were in the silicone when it was built or if they have gradually appeared over time due to stretching and age ............................
in regards to the other tank if its only a year old then it should be fine and you have probably agitated it lose with cleaning . however it should take a lot more than a bit of rubbing to remove unless it wasnt clean when built . is it clear or black silicone?

it is clear silicone

after looking closely at it, it is actually still there alot

some has looked like it has been scraped off from my magfloat, since the magflaot has a very rough side to it to scrape the algae, and with a very strong magnet, i guess it makes sense.
