Hi, I have a sick goldfish in my sons fish tank. It is a white goldfish, some of its scales have come off and it has what looks like blood showing through his scales all over his body. It is a small tank about about 60cm x 50cm. It has a filter in and we do 25% water change every two weeks and it has two other fish in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Sorry tried to post a picture, but it would not work.

Read over this link and give us more info if you can. http://www.fishforums.net/Looking-For-Help...sh-t172152.html

Read over the goldfish care sheet and tank size recommendations. http://www.fishforums.net/Gold-fish-in-tanks-t43980.html

A goldfish simply cannot stay healthy in an undersized tank. Goldfish get much too large and by being stunted in a small tank, it lowers their immune system and they have all kinds of health problems. Until you can get a larger tank, you should probably be doing daily 25% PWC's to keep the water quality in better shape. That would help out a lot until you can get a 20G/80L tank or larger. While a larger tank costs more up front, it's much easier to maintain and keep healthy so you are able to enjoy the fish rather then being stressed over them so much.. which is what happens with undersized/overstocked tanks.

What are the other two fish?

The condtion you are describing sounds like a bacterial infection but could also be ammonia poisoning or both. Give us more info pursuant to the first link and we can help figure things out a little better.

septiceamia, caused by poor water quality, stress, overcrowding and will kill the fish if those factors arent dealt with.

Do you have test kits? If not you can get your water tested at a pet store.

Changing the water every two weeks is a breeding ground for bacteria, so i suggest 100% every day to help alleviate the stress for the fish.
