My new betta, James, has started getting tiny white spots on him which i've read is a sign of ich. :( Is ich life threatening and how do i treat it? I've only had my boy 4 days but i'm already attatched to him and really don't want him to die. :( He's in a 5 gallon tank and the temperature is about 80F. He also has an AquaOne hang on filter (200L/hr) which i have set on the weakest flow but i've turned it off for now cause he kept swimming under the current and going whoooosh and even though he seemed to enjoy it i wasn't sure it was a fantastic thing for him to do. :/ I'll turn it on a few times a day just to move the water around a bit and try to keep the temperature even.

I found that "Quickcure" is the best medicine for Ich. You can even find it at Walmart. It turns the water blue, but doesn't seem to stain other things like some of the blue meds do. It does work extremely well. Usually 3 treatments is all thats needed to see a big difference. I have always done a treatment, and the next day I do a 100% water change and re-treat. Depending on the degree of infestation, you may have to do 4-5 treatments.
