I did a water change this morning and noticed one of the cories wsa a bit... still. I got the net out and prodded it (as you do) and it still hardly moved. The situation now is that its breathing fairly normally, its isolated, it can still swim a little bit but not much and looks quite bloated. No pineconing scales, I haven't tested yet but I'd say everythings fine as the other fish are OK and I've got an extra filter on. So, what, how to treat, etc.

Well, he's gone. At least I'm 80% sure he has. When I went back up he was on his side and not breathing, but twitching slightly. He's still now, but I think I'll leave him a little longer to make sure. I have no idea what it was, all I noticed was lack of movement and bloating. RIP lil cory, its a shame, I've only had them about 5 months.

I'm keeping an eye on the others, they seem fine but, you never know. I'm thinking its bacterial, anything I should try and get just in case?

Mine have a bacterial infection and I'm treating with Tetracycline. They have improved greatly since last night. Inchworm had recommended Kanamycin (Seachem's KanaPlex) or Tetracycline, or Maracyn 1 & 2 together. Good luck with the others.

Everyones still fine this morning, we'll need cat food soon so I'll take a look at the meds available then. However, I'm in the UK so can't get most of these meds.

Hi OohFeeshy

I'm sorry to learn about the trouble you are having.

In the UK, the best medicines for this seem to be Interpet's Anti-Finrot and Fungus Medicine or Myxazin.

It will help if you can keep the water temperature at around 24 degrees C. and provide a good amount of water circulation to add oxygen to the water.

Summer is a hard time of the year for corys. I'm having troubles with sick ones too. :/

Ah dear. I've isolated another 2- both have slightly lesser symptoms than the first (and indeed, each other). As a side note- They all seem to have trouble moving. The first and one of these move very little when you touch them, and I didn't even need a net for them. They didn't move when I took them out of the water, and when dropped (inside the tank, not onto the floor  ) try to swim a bit but just end up dropping like a slightly buoyant rock. Would Melafix be any help, and is it better to use the finrot meds than anti-internal bacteria? Also is it a good idea to put the other cories in the hospital tank or not to rish spreading it to the other cories (not sure if they've got it yet)?

I had a similar problem a couple months ago with one of my cories. I bought 4 albino cories and within the week one was acting strangly like your describing. He then got bloated, fins got a bit shredded, and his belly got red. It turned out to be a bacterial infection. I treated the whole tank with waterlife Myxazin. I must of treated too late though because he ended up dieing the same day. None of the other cories or other fish got sick though.

Hi OohFeeshy :)

At this point, I would medicate both tanks, but be sure to do big water changes first. Since the fish contract this illness after they have been exposed to stress, it's important to try to figure out what has weakened them and remove the cause, if at all possible. Whatever it is, all the fish in your tank have experienced the same conditions, so clean the tank well, medicate, and try to keep the temperature steady and the water well aerated. It's all you can do now.

What is the brand name of these anti-internal bacteria medicines I keep hearing about?

I hope your fish recover soon.

I'm using Interprets anti-internal bacteria meds, but I've just changed the water and put the finrot meds in (as you reccomended). The main tank seems OK, and one of the ones in the bucket seems a lil better, but the other is still rolling onto its side.

i just lost 2 of my precious 3 albino cories, and it looks like the third is fading--prodding him barely gets him to move and he's been so active all the time. how can you tell if they have a bacterial infection? I attributed my loss to either heat fluctuation (heat wave here in NJ) or possibly the algea problem in my tank.
