Sick Black Molly...yet to be diagnosed

;parasite meds wont harm the other fish right? If it so happens that it isnt a parasite it wont affect any fish negatively, the shrimp too right?

Metro is available in the U.S. UK is real strict about meds for animals.

Off topic but....

I wouldn't put the net in the dishwasher....the soap may not necessarily come all the way off, and you don't want your fish dying because of that. Try sterilizing in a Bleach/Water solution, and letting it sit for a while. Then I'd put it in a bucket with double or triple the amount of dechlorinator, to be sure there is no bad stuff on it, and rinse it really well. :)

Edit: With shrimps...you have be careful. Some parasite meds have copper, and copper is bad for shrimp. Look for the active ingredients...then you'll be able to tell if it's safe or not.

hehe alright thanks annastasia

Thanks guys ill hope for the best...but are you sure the fish will be fine shrimp included

I've treated angels, platys, & danios with metro, here's what I do;

Put the angel in a quar tank, I usually use a 10 gallon. Increase the temp over a day or so to 90-94F. Treat daily with 40 mg/gallon metronidazole, with 50% water changes daily. If the fish isn't eating, don't feed for the first 3 days. After 3 days, get some frozen brine shrimp. Take a portion about the size of a few match heads, and sprinkle on some metro. You have to eyeball this one, make the shrimp look kind of like a tiny powdered donut. Once it thaws, mix it in & feed. Sometimes they still don't eat for a few days, but once they start to mouth the food & spit it out, the meds seem to get in their system real good. Continue medicating the water & food for 7-10 days.

Metronidazole is sold as flagyl, het-a-mit, and a few other names I can't recall offhand, used to treat hexamita & hole in the head. They usually suggest 20mg/gallon, this often isn't enough. Metro deteriorates in 8 hours, so you could do twice daily water changes. I've done this on the weekends when I have time.

I don't thonk mollys will handle as high a temp as angels, I wouldn't go much over 82F. Metro shouldn't bother any of the well fish, though I would use a quar tank, just so you don't have to waste meds on a larger tank. I've used a combo of metro with epsom salt for bad cases that involved bloat & swim bladder issues.

As I said in my other post...if it has copper, it will be bad. Copper is highly toxic to invertebrates, which is why they use it to kill parasites. You might need to move them somewhere, if possible...

Metro doesn't have copper. Copper is used more for external parasites, and does a good job, but must be used with caution. White feces indicates internal parasites, which are best treated with metro.

Okay, great. Some meds claim to treat both internal and external, and have copper, so you just always have to check and make sure if you have shrimps. :)

Glad to hear it has no copper...so yes, Jephex, all your fish will be fine. :thumbs:

Dont put your molly down! There are medications to get rid of parasites. I treated my tank with parasite clear made by 'jungle' They are tablets - 1 tablets treats 10 gallons and you treat 3 times with 48 hours between treatments. You will have to take the carbon out of your filter though. You can also get a medicated food called anti parasite medicated fish food for internal parasites.
If you can issolate than you could treat seperate from your other fish but chances are if 1 fish has it than the others might as well.
Good luck :)
