Hi,

I have a 200 litre community tank running - mainly mollies, platties, tetras and danios,  One RTBS still very small.  Also, sparkling gourami.

I did have a couple of mystery snails but they recently died (still not quite sure why - platties were constantly picking at them though???).  I am looking for some bottom feeders to clean up the detritus/waste/algae etc while being something interesting to look at and thought shrimp might be a good idea.

What shrimp would be compatible with my community tank and fishmates?  I like the look of the red cherry shrimp, the red and white striped one, but have also read that glass shrimp are cool.  Riffle shrimp seem to be a bit bigger and more easily available in australia?

I have a ph about 7.5-7.8 and hard water.

Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

All of your stock are predators. Unless your tank is heavily planted go for it. If not waste of money

For a tank that large you could try a few bamboo shrimp, These are quite large shrimp and use fans on there arms to catch food around the tank.

Riffle shrimp are similar to the amano/yamato shrimp we can get here. I have amanos in with platies and a betta (separate tanks) and they are fine. They are big enough to ping out of the way if there's any confrontation. Not sure how well they'd do with the RTBS tho.
EDIT: Hard water and pH in mid 7's is perfect for these shrimp. GH 7-13 is a good range. When you add them it is critical to acclimate them slowly Do the drip acclimation method as they will need to adjust to the TDS and GH as well as temp and pH. I lost 2 lots of shrimp thro not knowing this little but significant fact.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to research more about the riffle shrimp and maybe give a few a go :)
