Well, humane or not, avoid having to do that. I can see why in that case, (I do that too.) but keep a close eye on the rest of your fish. Good luck.

thats horrific i really hope u r jokingI just catch an ill fish in the net and smack it off a wall - instant death.
I think that for a fish as small as a cardinal freezing is humane.
Sounds like it MAY be a swim bladder issue.
If it were my fish I think I would euthanise it. Just make sure the water is cold enough. IE. has a layer of ice on top.
hmm im not sure now, he has started to swim around in the small tank, but very fast but still rolling upside down and what not...
Hi guys, unfortuanately i had to do it and i hated it.
the water was ICE cold, and i put him in the cup and he sank to the bottom and after around 3 seconds, hills gills and mouth were not moving, he diddnt even struggle that is how weak he was, he was just lay on the bottom with his mouth and gills moving in the tank, even when i caught him with the net he diddnt bother to move he had also gotten bloated aswell.
i think i did the right think by putting the little dude out of his misery but it was not at all enjoyable.
thanks guys

if u arent u should not have ANY pets and someone should through u into a wall when u have the cold c how u like it.
The only problem with the smacking against the wall idea is that lack of a guaranteed kill. I've once done it myself (having been advised by a far more experienced fish keeper) and it wasn't exactly definite. If you're nervous it would be very easy to slap the fish and not actually cause death.
Of course, if you can stand the clean-up act you could make use of any of these.
